Taylormade TP Black vs. TP Black LDP

90ish MPH swing speed

i just read the results from the Feb 08 golf ball review in which they used an iron byron to test out 54 golf balls (im sure most of you have read it, i found the link on this site)

the results were calculated using a 90MPH SS
which is about my swing speed

anyway, the ball reviewed (i believe) was the TP Black (not the newer TP Black LDP) and the TP Black was the longest ball out of the test group with a distance of 259 yards whereas the Pro V1 had a distance of 252 ish. and the wedge spin was less than 200 RPM difference.

that comes down to a 7 or so yard distance difference on a 90 MPH SS and very little greenside difference.

the prov1 outdrove the TP Black by 1 yard when the robot was sped up to a 105 ss just FY1

this leads me to believe that the TP Black will give me EXCELLENT greenside spin and (having a moderate SS) wont make me sacrifice 10 yards off the tee to get the spin i want!

so my basic question is this........

does the Taylormade LDP also have good distance for moderate swingspeeds or should i just go with the Older version?

TP Black LDP is a long ball and the Red is slightly longer. I hit the red lower so there is more run out where the black tends to fly higher. The Red is more penetrating than the black and has less spin. The Black is the spinnier version and is more firm while the Red is more about low spin and distance but it is softer. I guess you will have to decide which you want but don't forget that the color of the balls switched when going to the LDP. The Red is the old Black and vice versa.... It confuses me reading old reviews because you never know what ball they are talking about unless they use LDP in the review. You should be happy with the distance out of these balls and if spin is not your prime concern you will like the balls very much. TM has a good ball on their hands but for me I want something with more spin and a softer feel. The TP Black is to firm and does not spin enough for me, but everyone is different.

That Feb 08 article does review the TM TP Black with LDP. If you look at the picture, there's an LDP stamp on the side. TM added the LDP in 08. Hope that helps.

That Feb 08 article does review the TM TP Black with LDP. If you look at the picture, there's an LDP stamp on the side. TM added the LDP in 08. Hope that helps.
