Purchasing a GPS

Just want to get a few people's opinion on this. I'm about to purchase a GPS, either UPro or OnPar. They both are at $399 and I'm still trying to decide which one to get (they both have the courses I play). I've used ebay numerous times without a problem (knocking on wood) and I'm thinking about buying one from there. I've seen a few listings where I could probably save about $100-$150. I always check the buyers feedback and how long they have been a member and how many transactions they have done.

 

I'm only looking at new ones and was wondering would I still get the manufactures warranty?

 

I've only bought used stuff off ebay before ie. video games, controllers and just stuff like that.

 

So if you guys could save say $100 off of a GPS would you go through ebay or just pony up and get it at a local store?

uPro has a $100 rebate till the end of this month; provided you buy it from an authorized dealer.

Upro is kinda a pain though. Each hole you have to click that you are on that hole, the software needs to do that for you. The pro version of a course is nice, but my experience has been it is not that user friendly right now.

Thanks for that insight golf1. I played around with both at the golf store and kind of noticed that but I chalked it up to getting used to it.

I just went down this road and I liked the SkyCaddie SG5 and the Garmin Approach G5 the best. The SkyCaddie won out though. I liked the user interface and features the best. I bought my SG5 for $310 on eBay. As far as I am concerned, the yearly subscription fee is a non-issue.

Yes. I was able to buy the extended warranty as well.

I bought it from "eqtgolf" on eBay and he has more available. Free shipping and he shipped it quickly.

The uPro offers a manual advance, auto advance with a prompt and auto advance. You must have missed that in your setup preferences.

Thanks, I will check that feature out and see if it helps me out. Sounds like that is what I need to do to in order to stop all the questions. Will that work in standard and Pro mode or just in Pro?

I believe it works in both AND you can disable to fly overs you don't need to see them.

By the way, when I synced the SG5 for the first time, I got the latest release of the software which includes the score card feature and the ability to hold 20 courses. That was a ~$20 upgrade in the past.
