Aldila NVS 85 hybrid?

Does anyone have experience with the Aldila NVS 85 hybrid shaft.

 

I am considering it as well as the stock shaft in a PING G5 hybrid.

I have this shaft in my TM rescue Mid Hybrid. Good shaft, but I would suggest trying something else. There was just something missing. Just didnt feell as comfortable with it as I wanted too.

 

It worked OK for me, but it may be great for you.

Hmmm... I too have an Aldila NV Hybrid shaft in a TaylorMade Rescue Mid (mine is the 16 degree/2i, although it's really sort of like a 1.5 iron!) and I have to admit that I don't much like it either. I have a 4i Rescue Mid (22 deg) with the stock stiff shaft and it is much more forgiving with more feel. I had the 4i first and loved it, then decided to get the 2i when they were discontinuing the Rescue Mid. When I got to the store, they had both the stock TM shaft and the Aldila for the same price. The Rescue clubs hit very high and theoretically the Aldila would cut some of that, and it seemed like a great deal, so I decided to get the Aldila. I tried it out into the net at the store (not a simulator or monitor though) and it seemed to feel OK, but on the range I found that it was very difficult for me to get a dependable straight flight which was a no brainer with the 22 deg.

 

Although models vary, the NV generally seems to have a reputation as being pretty stiff and with a hard tip, and I believe that is reflected in my results. Again, with a 2i like this, I might be struggling with the TM shaft too, but it's really pretty challenging. Last year, I tried out the Sonartec Md with iRod vs. Aldila and it seemed like the iRod had much better feel. I found the Sonartec Md really hard to hit well in general and the Aldila was a reshaft, so maybe this isn't that meaningful, but I have to admit that I've never picked up a club with the NV that wasn't harder for me to hit well.

 

For what it's worth, I also recently picked up a Ping G5 hybrid, 19 deg with the ProLaunch Blue shaft. I really like the way it sets up and the way it feels when you swing it, but I haven't had great results with it. It's very forgiving and very straight, but frankly, it doesn't go very far for me (around 205 yd carry, but like all hybrids the trajectory is high so I don't really see much roll and yes, I know that probably 35 yds less than everybody else on this forum would hit it). This is no better than that TM Rescue Mid 22 which has a lot more loft and a shorter shaft too. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to try to work on this some more, or exchange it for a different shaft or loft. If it would just stop raining here in Northern California, then I really want to get my swing together and compare it to the Taylor Made stuff as well, which seems to work better for me.
