Broken Driver?

Hey Guys,

I was cleaning my clubs today, and tossed my Driver into the water/tub as well. I heard a squeel/spueak coming out of my Driver, so I decided to take it out and take a look. The water was bubbling around the top inside (shaft side) of the portion where the face meets the backing. Sorry if my terms are off. It was very much like a hole in a beachball, where you pour water to watch for the bubbling. My question is, is this a problem, if so, how much of one and has anyone else had this happen? This driver has been with me for a year now, and I started out with it, so there was definately some mishits with it, that likely didn't help the durability at all.

 

Ontop, I am just starting to read Tom Wishon's "The search for the perfect club" so I will likely look into a "custom built" driver after this one. How long do these generally take to create/make? How much above normal big box store drivers do these usually cost? Are the ones who are on Wishon's website qualified and will they fit me properly? Does anyone know of a really good club maker in the GTA/Hamilton area? My driver is REALLY beaten to hell so I think it may be nearing the end, and I figure a custom driver could be my "summer work tread" :). If anyone remembers my other thread on beginner clubs, I am looking into the second book that was suggested, and am booking my lessons later on this week, just wanted to update there for any that were curious.

What kind of driver is it?I have a Cobra 454 Comp that cracked whre the face is attached to the crown.Cobra fixed it for free don't know if this is the problem with yours or not but it sounds like it could be.You can try taking it back to where you bought it and see what they say.

It's a Wilson Fatboy. It doesn't look like a noticable crack, but now that I've seen it, there does seem to be a seperation from the crown and face.

I know a great fitter/clubmanker near Windsor......from the GTA probably a 4hour drive each way but well worth it....his name is Claude......great guy....speands a lot of time with each client to make sure they aer getting what they want.

Windsor's a little far. I've located 2 people about 30-45 minutes away that are on Wishon's site. I'll definately talk to them about a few things. If things aren't what I'd like with them I will definately look into your Windsor suggestion though.

 

How much above "regular cost" is it to have a custom club made? Just so I have an idea of what I am looking at.

 

Also, how do I go about measuring the length of my driver? Top of the grip to the heel of the face?
