Yamaha 2010 inpres X D201 Type S Driver

I finally received the Yamaha 2010 inpres X D201 Type S Driver. Over the holidays it took almost 3 weeks to clear US customs. Since we had a record snow in the DC area and are having the coldest winter in 25 years it has been difficult to get any golf in. Anyhow we had a break in the weather and I played in a winter PRO AM scramble yesterday after an extended range session on thursday.

The specs are 10 degree type S with a stock ORBit shaft. The shaft is very light at 48 grams, but the torque is 4.7. I didnt get A shaft upgrade as it is winter and I wanted a baseline to work off. As we get into the real golf season I will try different shaft setups in this head. The type S club is engineered to go straight or fade, but the 4.7 torque in the stock shaft caused the club to turn over a bit more on a hard swing. When I made a smooth pass , The head and feel at impact was amazing. It was very lively and explosive off the face. I hit some very long tee shots with this club yesterday. The ball flight had a nice flat trajectory with good carry and a nice angle of descent. It was the most explosive feeling face off the driver Ive ever tried. I am really tempted to try the Yamaha Tour model v201 460 with the ROMBAX J setup.

Bottom line... With the right setup A BIG UPSIDE.

Also interested in the Yamaha Driver line up. I'd be interested in the face depth. Seems like the D201 Drivers have a rather shallow face. Is that correct? And how about the forgivness. I don't really work the ball, so straight is good. Do the v201's have a deeper face and are they a lot harder to hit?

The V201s have a deeper face and are more forgiving top to bottom in the center of the face. The D201 S are longer heel to toe and more forgiving off center. The face height of the D201 type S is mid profile. I didnt measure the fACE but the head shape and face height is close to the TITLEIST 909 D2. I would rate the forgiveness of the D201 in the same area as the PING G15. However the COBRA ZL is the most forgiving driver Ive ever hit. Its almost impossible to hit a bad shot with it.

Could you post some pics from the driver. Maybe side by side with another driver comparing the face. Really like the looks of the Yamaha drivers. Especially the v201's.
