WITB 2010 Season (and 2009 salute)

Hey everyone! I'm a Philadelphia golfer and new to the site. I figured after browsing for awhile I'd make my very first post about my new setup. A lil background info; I picked up golf last summer and it has been one of the most frustrating, fun experiences I've had. I bought my first set of clubs off of craigslist for $100 and it took a lot of abuse from my awful swing technique. Everyone told me to take a lesson first, but I was stubborn and tried to teach myself. Incosistency and topping the ball became the only consistent thing about my swing haha. Needless to say I had to forget everything I "learned" and learn a new swing. Well anyway, onto the good stuff! I put together a modest set for the 2010 season with a budget of $700. Got 13 clubs so far until I decide what to get for #14. Suggestions are welcome.

2009 Setup:

 

Northwestern Conquest Woods 1-3-5 w/ True Temper Steel Shaft

Northwestern Conquest Irons 3-PW w/ True Temper Steel Shaft (yes I only had a PW last season)

Yeah I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a 13* 3-wood. The only major gaps I have right now are between my driver and 2-hybrid and my PW and SW. I think a higher launching 3-wood that's close to my driving distance would be more beneficial to my game at this point. The perfectionist in me wants a matching Burner wood, but I'm not loyal to any specific brand. Performance trumps looks for me. A few friends have suggested Callaway as a good start. My budget for the 3-wood is $200 if that helps anyone point me in the right direction.

The Burner is solid, hyper X is dirty long
Personally I'd recommend you try Ping G15's, solid FW

Good looking setup. You should see a lot of growth in your game with this set. I would suggest an Adams, Callaway, or TM 3 wood at 15 or 15.5 degree to hit off the tee on the days when the driver is not working for you. Good luck and nice set!

Nice setup!! May I suggest that you look at the Adams Speedline 3 and 5 woods. You can probably get two brand new ones for less than $200 and they are solid. Real easy off the tee and deck. Maybe scrap the 2 hybrid unless you really really love it. The extra space could be filled with a 50 degree gap wedge.

Nice bag. I would go with a 3W - TM or Adam's for your 14th.

I'd stay clear of a 13 degree 3 wood if I was setting out though.

Adams might be a good shout for the 3 wood.
