Old Shafts vs New Technology

Am I loosing distance by using an older model shaft?

I game a UST Harmon Tour Design shaft and have for years. When I get a new driver, thats the shaft I have put in it. I know there is a ton of technology out there and I am wondering if I should venture out and find a new shaft to swing? I am a pretty big swinger.... 110 plus swing speed. Am I giving up distance by playing this old technology?

Old vs. new technology is not as important as having a shaft which provides you with the correct launch angle and spin rate for your S.S.

The beauty of modern technology is to hopefully match a shaft exactly to a golfer's ability, not per se make the most technologically advanced shaft in production.

However, if you seriously wish to dance with today's ultimate cutting edge technology (which should indeed provide an overall improvement) then I suggest that you look into scandium shaft technology which I suspect will ultimately wipe the floor with present steel and graphite technology.

I tried asking a similar question but had no responses - I currently use a Grafalloy Prolite in my driver and am sure there is something newer/better which has a similar player profile

I suggest that you telephone a few of your local club builders who own and use Tom Wishon's Bend Profile software and then go along for a chat and a fitting. You won't often find out much by asking questions on golf forums as experts who write there are limited in number as (i) Rarely does anyone even say "Thanks," so its an emotionally unrewarding exercise and (ii) I have yet to secure any business by so giving out free technical advice!

Seriously! Thank you for the reply! I asume that you are a Long Drive competitor.... That is very impressive. I am a bomber for a golfer but I've played with several true long drivers and they make me look soft.

Mitstrick, You are very welcome. I sponge up all the technical golf equipment facts and technique I can find, and then store it. I get as much pleasure from occasionally increasing the enjoyment of other golfers as from competing in Longdrive. My cv is set out of my 'Me' page on UK eBay.
