In terms of looks and feel, the Nickent 4dx tour is tough to beat (by anything). However, in terms of overall performance, the Cleveland is a beast. It puts up competitive launch numbers (high launch/low spin) and is super forgiving. Not going to win any beauty contests though...

Titleist TSR2 15* & 21* w/ GD UB-7,8 (S)

Titleist T200/150 5-PW w/ Steelfiber i110 (S)

All of the heads offer relatively low spin and launch....

Nickent 4dx tour spec or draw? The tour spec sets up pretty square to barely open, but the draw will set up closed a bit. The evolver, assuming it's the old model and not CYG hosel, will also set up about 1* closed. The Hibore tour will set up a few degrees open.

I would say if you can get the evolver with cyg, that's the pick. You can experiment from there.

If you have issues at all with misses to the right (assuming you're right handed), stay away from the cleveland.

Personally, I would take CYG evolver, tour spec 4dx, cleveland tour, old evolver (closed setup), 4dx draw.

Nickent 4DX is one of the few drivers I haven't hit yet. The Hibore XL tour is open 3* if I remember correctly and the sweet spot is actually in the middle of the face unlike so many drivers that have the sweet spot a little above. I gamed the XL tour for a while before my 9015D put it into retirement but it's still a great head for those that want low, low spin and an anti left club. I had a tour issue head and the sound was really nice although I believe the retail ones are a bit loud as apposed to the Nickent which I've heard have a very muted sound.

4DX is very solid.

Question for Evolver owners, does the wrench click when it reaches the proper tourque, or is it possible to over tourque it?

I am currently hitting the 4dx SE ( which is identical to the 4dx but all black) and have used my brother's 4dx evolver. I love both of them. Both set up a little closed (evolver without the CYG) but the face is very explosive. I'm guessing the Tour version is good for people who an open face. But I think 9* is the highest with the Tour model. Also the evolver seems to have a smaller looking head profile than the regular 4dx

Flapjack: Yes the wrench clicks when it is tightened enough.

Thanks spaceguy. Do you have to give it some serious tourque for it to click? I just got one, and tightened it quite a bit, and it still didn't click. I took a pair of vice grips and held the steel bit of the wrench, and with a lot of tourque got it to click, but it seems like way too much. Maybe this wrench is defective. I don't want to damage the insert in the evolver head.

Myself I picked up a 4dx and haven't looked back. It has great feel, distance and shot shape ability. All in all I am very impressed when I hit it. An all around true performer =)

Flap, not much power needed with mine. Make sure you have the head aligned correctly with the shaft.

I have the regular hosel and not the CYG just to say again.

My buddy in Fla had the Wilson Spine but said he couldn't stand the sound it made? I never hit it. In case anyone is interested in 4dx shafts. I have a UST v2 "stiff and a Ust V2 HL "stiff for sale(both new and never used). Both have Evolver adapters on them(not cyg). I am selling for $50 shipped or would trade for a decent 3 wood.

I've hit each of these and the Cleveland is still in my regular rotation.

Honestly I don't think there's much difference between the three heads. The shaft is where it's at - any of these three will be just fine with the correct shaft for you.

The Cleveland is an ugly golf club. I have never gotten used to the soup-ladle look at address. I don't like the sound, either. It is L O U D at impact. But I sure do like long drives with a slight fade, so I can work with the looks and the sound. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

How is the launch of the 4DX Evolver head with CYG? Low, mid or high?

I'm gaming a low-launch low-spin 10.5deg J33R 460 with PF V2 which is just right for me. What would be the closest 4DX CYG equivalent - 9deg or 10.5deg?

Can a 10.5deg head really be adjusted to a 9deg with the CYG hosel? Would it be better to get a 9deg head and use the CYG to adjust it higher? Or get a 10.5deg head and use CYG to adjust it lower? I understand the CYG will affect the lie when the loft is adjusted.

Thanks.
