Sun Mountain Three 5 versus Titleist Lightweight

Any real differences?

Hey guys. I know Sun Mountain makes the bags for Titleist. Is there any real difference between the two? The reason I ask is because the Sun Mountain can be had for about $25 less than the Titleist (Golfsmith 15% off coupon works for the Sun Mountain, but not the Titleist), and I'm not sure whether the Titleist is worth the extra money. Thanks for your help.

I thought the Titliest bag had the nicer (e.g. more padding and connected) "old" strap system, while the Sun Mountain did not. Unless they recently changed that...the only reason I remember is that it really seemed odd to me since Sun Mountain makes the Titliest bags.

I have both and to be honest there isn't that much difference, I keep my Sun Mountain bag at the club in the city and my Titleist bag is at the lake (just cuz its a couple of years old). and in response to the strap comment, I like the Sun Mountain system better than the Titleist connected system. but both are great bags and will get the job done, so if one is to be had a bargain then jump on it!!

I believe the newer versions of both bags utilize the same strap system. Titleist does use a thicker material on the bag, but my Sun Mountain has held up well over the past two years and is the lighter of the two.

[size="3"]Hey guys. Thanks for all the helpful responses. I went to Golf Galaxy today to do an in-depth comparison of the two bags. Here is what I observed:[/size]

[size="3"]·[/size] [size="3"]The Titleist bag is definitely made of heavier gage material. I don’t know if that is good or bad in terms of how well the bag will hold up over time. Common sense says that heavier gage is better, but I haven’t heard any complaints from any of the Sun Mountain owners, so maybe that’s a distinction without a difference. I have read that the Sun Mountain bag is slightly lighter than the Titleist bag, so maybe it’s because of the lighter weight material that’s used.[/size]

[size="3"]·[/size] [size="3"]The beverage pouch/sleeve on the Sun Mountain bag is slightly larger than the one on the Titleist. This is actually important. With the Titleist bag, I had a hard time getting my hand in and out of the sleeve, whereas on the Sun Mountain bag there was plenty of room to do so. While both bags could handle a standard 16 ounce water bottle, it seems to me that the Sun Mountain bag could handle a bottle with a little more girth, like Gatorade.[/size]

[size="3"]·[/size] [size="3"]The Sun Mountain bag has an extra pocket on the right side of the bag. Both bags have a full length garment pocket and a velour-lined valuables pocket, but the Sun Mountain also has an additional smaller pocket on the outside of the garment pocket.[/size]

[size="3"]·[/size] [size="3"]The straps are exactly the same. I will say, however, that the straps on the Sun Mountain Four 5 have much more padding than those on the Three 5 or the Titleist equivalent.[/size]

[size="3"]·[/size] [size="3"]The logo on the side of the Titleist bag is much more pronounced than the logo on the Sun Mountain bag. I was comparing two navy blue bags, and whereas the Titeist logo was large and stark white, the Sun Mountain logo seemed slightly smaller and was definitely not as bright. Perhaps the size of the logos were the same, but the Sun Mountain logo seemed smaller because it was not as pronounced.[/size]

[size="3"]All in all, I don’t think you can go wrong with either bag, but if you can save some money on the Sun Mountain, and you don’t mind the slightly lighter gage material, then it might be the direction you want to go. Hope this helps.[/size]
