He is playing in the Fed Ex St. Jude Classic in Memphis. I saw him today since I marshall the 16th hole. He started on hole 10 and was already 6 over when he got to 16. He did shoot 84. Only 7 behind JD.

I was talking to a PGA official as JD was playing 16, he bogeyed to go 7 over, and no one thinks he'll even play on Friday. He could hardly bend over to get the ball out of the hole, apparently a sore back. This official didn't seem to impressed with John and his prognosis.

#16 is one of my favorite holes at Southwind. Great course and a great event. Looks like the heat will always be turned on no matter when they hold this tourney, huh? 95 forecasted here tomorrow and through the weekend. Ouch.

Did JD have a party for the volunteers at his bar on Beale this week?

16 is a good hole. From a marshall's standpoint there are several places on the hole to work which makes it interesting the we have a great group of volunteers that work the hole every year.

JD did have his Volunteer Party at Celebraties on Beale Tuesday night. My son in Law, Hudvol and my daughter ( Mrs. Hudvol) went and said he was feeling no pain. Which was not the case on Wed morning at the pro am. He looked like he had not been to bed.

OK back to the topic of what this post is about! Why is Kip Henley getting sponsor exepmtions on the PGA tour? Did the guy even scare a cut on the Nationwide tour when he got those special exemptions? Obviously the tournament directors get their choice on whom the expemtions go out to, but do they think that this guy is actually going to bring in a crowd? Yeah he was on national TV and won a huge reality golf show with TGC, but if I am at the tournament he would be one of the last that I would follow around. I want to see some pros play!!!

And NO I am not a BB hater in fact I love watching the show, BUT there has not been one player on any of the series yet that would even come close to making a living on the PGA tour. An example even would be the last ladies series. Did you guys notice when they would hit shots and hit the green, everyone complimented them on a good shot. A good shot is not something that JUST made the putting surface or is 30 feet out from the pin on a 110 yd wedge shot. If they want to be a PGA or LPGA player, 110 yds and in you have to be hitting it within ten feet everytime.

That is just my honest opinion! I just don't like seeing players stealing expemptions from Pro's that CAN compete on the tour.

WHEW I have a feeling I am going to get hammered for this post!

Kip Henly update.

Saw him birdie 16 today to get back to 22 OVER. That means if he parred 17 and 18 he shot 78 today. Now I'm not certain of this but this is not the 1st time he has played in the FESJC. He is from Crossville, TN and I think won the Tennesee State Open a few years back.

Now that does not qualify him to play the PGA tour and he obviously does not have the game to play at that level.

After he made his birdie he walked over and spoke with me and another gallery marshall and he even let me play around with his new Titleist prtotype putter ( ie: Sabbatini's putter). He really is a nice guy who tried to live his dream. Believe me the FESJC had plenty of spots and I believe his sponsorship was locally tied.

If the quality of player on the Big Break does not improve, many will quit watching. At this point it's just human interest reality TV with a golf theme.

He did qualify through the Tennessee PGA section and he went really low to get it 61 or 62.

This tournament is kind of old school like that, it is one of the few tournaments left that actually reserves spots for the state PGA chapter to have their professionals qualify for.

This used to be the norm for every tournament, but due to the all-exempt tour now, there is no longer a need or the room for this type of qualification system.
