Adams long Game, SRI Sports for the rest
Hello Again,

Oh how my bag has grown, still the same college flavor as we always have to rep our upbringings. No build story here. That has yet to come, I'll be getting the spining and doweling done here shortly. For more information on that, just scroll down, I did this procedure to my old set. Oh how I miss my Srixon's :( But I took pictures of these clubs at its most purest state...fresh after a golf round.

Anyways, here are the new goods and my current set

Driver: Adams 9015d Proto, 10.5, UST Axivcore Tour Black 79g Stiff
3wood: Adams F11 15*, Matrix Ozik X-Con 7.1 80g Stiff
Hybrid: Adams A7 PNT 19*, UST Axivcore Tour Black 89g Stiff
Hybrid: Adam Pro Gold 23*, Fujikura 904HB 89g Stiff
5-GW: Adams Pro Back MB, KBS Tour Black Nickel R Hardstepped
Wedges: Adams Puglielli Black 56* 60* KBS Tour Black Nickel
Putter: Never Compromise GM2 Exchange #4
Grips: Golf Pride Tour Wrap White, White Iomic Putter

And check out my custom headcover...seems to get a lot of comments on the course

WITB and Build Story

Finally, I get my chance to make an article on my beloved clubs. I've been on GolfWRX for quite some time now and has never done a WITB but finally manned-up and did one smile.gif I also added some info on some build tricks that might appeal to some of you for you next DIY (Kept out the basics of course, like regripping and epoxy stuff) First off let's go ahead and cut to the chase:

Now here is the build story, going from longest club to shortest.

Driver/3wood/hybrid: Run of the mill driver/wood build. Measure head weight, shaft weight, grip weight, swing weight then adjust and build to spec. Spined, sugared*, and used 24 hour epoxy (ALWAYS)
*sugared – not sure what the real term is but when you need to keep the shaft from rotating since it is spined, you sprinkle a little sugar on the tip to help seat/lodge the shaft in place. And makes the driver that much sweeter smile.gif don't know who started this but I do know this is one of the tricks up Joe's sleeve... DONE!

Did run into an issue with my 3 wood, I (while burning the midnight oil, hey club builds aren't quick) I forgot to drill a hole though the epoxy at the tip (shaft pull) and installed it, I did not want to start all over so I just stuck with it. But had a brilliant idea to get the air out (now I don't recommend this at all but when you have work the next morning and it's 1am, you shouldn't be working on clubs) I sat the club up against the wall on the table and hit it with the heat gun, managed to get the head up to 150 deg F with that (easy) and the air bubble actually expanded and "popped" out some epoxy from the hosel, I wiped it off and reset it all to dry. Theory behind it is that the air still locked within the hosel would need to get hotter than what I heated it up to before it starts to apply pressure to the epoxy. If you take your clubs out of the trunk on a hot day, you will notice the head covers actually keep the woods from getting hot. And I had 24 hour epoxy so I should (and still am) fine. Be sure that you have 24 hour epoxy if you attempt this since it was still "liquidy" at the time of heating. Not recommended at all, but every builder has a worst case scenario action. DONE!

Irons: The bulk of the work. Measured the heads, shafts and all other parts (ferrule, grip tape, estimated epoxy weight, dowel) with a 0.1g scale to adjust for exact total weights and increments. Used excel and scale to dial in weights.

All clubs: Spined the shafts with NBP towards target as always. Doweled the irons and removed taper from grips

Spined – No BS spine finder, pretty straight forward. DONE!

Doweled – it was very easy (be sure to have a dremel) you buy 5/16" fluted dowels (roughly 1.5" long and they are precut) and get the thin cutting disk for the dremel. Use the disk edge to make a channel along the outside of dowel. Fluted makes it easy to follow along dowel and the channel does not have to be that deep. Just enough to let the air molecules out. Used the alignment sticks or driveway sticks as ramrod and put a little epoxy on the bottom (head side) half the dowel and rammed away. DONE!

This is where the dowel should be inside relative to the clubhead

dowel.jpg?t=1273767923

Taper from grips – I put a 4" long layer of tape from the head end of the grip and the a 5" layer then the whole grip length (plus end cap of course) this has really helped with my control and I like the added "fit to my hands" since the taper always felt funny. TIP: Be sure to put your shorter layers on the bottom (on first) since the overlapping layer will help smooth out the edges of the tape (which you can feel through the grip) DONE!

Internal putter weighting – find a guy who had worked for Yes! Putter and also is teaming up with the Tour Lock guys to make the putters feel better in the hands. Same concept of as back weighting but instead of being fully at the butt cap, it is closer to the head just below the hands. It feels amazing! Really all you do it roll up some lead tape (wish I knew exactly how long) into the appropriate diameter, and ram it down the shaft. Be sure to measure how deep the plug will go in relation to the ramrod. Make sure to cover the top and bottom of the plug with a little double sided grip tape to help it stay in place. Put the grip back on and feel the difference. DONE!

That's pretty much it, all the other stuff like swing weighting, cutting to length, loft lie adjustments are straight forward and is common knowledge around here but wanted to share some (hopefully new) insight from my experience with these clubs.

Thanks for reading hope it was worth the read,

Thank you! I don't know why but that color scheme is what I'm all about this year (My favorite colors are usually red/black)

lol very nice bag i must say
wedges a t c9? are they playable???????? or am i missing something
does all this weight 0.6g tolerance measuring thing really make that much of a difference?
not bashing just wondering if you just like taking pride in clubs or think it will really change anything
[/quote]
The head weight still feels good since they clocked in at d4 and d5 (53 and 58 respectively) when they had the std grips. but I've yet to have any problems yet. And no worries on the tolerance comment, honestly it doesn't...at least I can't tell. But when you combine a tinkerer with a gram scale, heads, shafts, grips, and everything but THE FERRULES!!! (3 day shipping) you start to get impatient and curious :)

But honestly it doesn't matter since you adjust weight when you swing weight anyways, but it's nice to know that you don't need to add 7g to make up manufacturer mishaps. Forged clubs are nice and consistent.

Nice looking clubs, those irons look amazing.

Thank you

And I couldn't even start to tell you about the feel, so many small factors add up.
Japan forged heads +1
Blades +1
Black golds+1
Cord Grips +1
Dowels +1
Spined +1
Weak lofts +1
Soft stepped +1

They are just ridiculously smooth.

Great looking stuff Zlim. Those Irons look amazing. How is the Axivcore in the 9015, I keep going back and forth over which adams head to get the 9015, 9032LS or Fast 10. I really really liked the axiv black in the fast 10 though.

I would love to do a University of Wyoming bag for myself but there is no way I am going with the colorsrussian_roulette.gif

btw great choice of 3woodok.gif

9015d + Axivcore = best I've ever hit! And I'm not saying that because they are "high-end" or koolaid material but they just work very well for me, The last combo that worked great for me was the NVG2 with ProLaunch Blue and that was a cheap combo...but I still think I can hit more fairways with that combo (stupid ho in me)

No love for cowboy joe gear? but must agree, I couldn't do the black and brown gold colors of some CU bags down here

And the 3 wood is great, been having some control issues on the range but seems to cooperate when I really need it to.

Sweet.

Thanks, and to make it more literal, there is sugar built into the wood heads as well :)
