Is it worth the UPGRADE?
I have a 983k and i love its performance but i think if i stepped up the technology in head and shaft in my driver it could help my driving out a lot. is the awesome feel in the 983k maintained in the 905 series...and also im looking to keep the great workability of the 983k in my new driver and i need a higher flighted driver so any other suggestions would be appreciated ( i also liked the r7 425 when i tested it out near when it came out if that helps)

thanks!

I have a the 983K, E and also own a 905 T and and S. For me the 905 series are more forgiving with out a doubt. I hit the 983E better than the K for some reason, probrably the lower spin. You can get 905 S or T for $150 or less on Ebay or at Golf Galaxy as Demo. I hit the 905T with UST V2 very well about 10-20 yards farther than my 983K.

I never hit or owned a K but I am using a 905T w/ prolaunch 65 stiff and its by far the most accurate and best feeling driver I have hit.....its also bit longer than my previous FT3.

wow great to hear

the 905 w/v2, how did that work out, did u use a 65 or 75 gram? jw, what were the launcg conditions like?

and 905t w/prolaunch sounds good to me because i like a high lofted driver with a stiff yet high launching shaft, thats what has worked for me so nice to hear about it in the 905.

thanks for the feedback guys!

Here's a story that might help you decide if you want to upgrade.

On my home course, there's a hole on the back nine that plays about 420 from the back tees. It's a dog-leg left hole with a narrow landing area, and there's a bunker on the left-hand side of the fairway. To carry it, it's about 270. it's also a #2 handicap hole. Here's the thing:

With my 983k, if I did try going over the bunker I'd always hit into it. On other days, I'd fade it away from the bunker, but that left me with a longer second shot. Now with this 905s driver with comp NT stiff shaft, I cleared the bunker by 15 yards on the fly and rolled into the fairway with about 109 yards left to the flag. That's 310+ yards including roll! I never could've done that with the 983k with the shaft I had.

Like the others said, the 905 drivers are more forgiving.

I was like you. I was hesitant to upgrade because I was so in love with the 983k (the sound, look, distance, etc.) But the upgrade was worth it.

Do you need the forgivness of the 905? That's the only question that you need to answer.

Played with a really good amateur player today (State Am qualifier, etc.)

He was using a 983K and was hitting it as far as my Ping G5.

The 983 series is as long as anything. The forgiveness is the only thing to consider really.

I had a 983E and upgraded to a 905S at the beginning of this year. Lofts were 8.5* and shafts Prolite S and Blue S respectively, so the clubs were about as similar as you get.

Personally, the 905S is substantially more forgiving. I don't like the sound or the feel as much as the E, but it gives me better results, and that's what matters. I don't think twice about the switch.

some more forgiveness would be nice but its not a huge issue but i the shaft i think would make the most difference because the one in my K now is nothing really. I just love the feel and workability of my K, will the S maintain the feel well and still give me more forgiveness? im thinking now that if i upgrade to an S i keep the same feel, gain a tad bit of forgiveness (hopefully, i dunno), and gain some distance with a good shaft combo

Here's my experience: I own a 983k/Graf Blue 9.5, and hit it pretty well, with a bit too low of ball flight for me, bad swings went slicing away. Purchased 905t's with the NV and V2 in 10.5.

We all know that the 983 has arguably the best feel of any driver. Long as well. With the T (I prefered the V2 due to its more penetrating flight, higher than my Blue, and it seeming to limit the amount of sidespin I got on bad swings.) you DO notice that it is slightly more forgiving. I dont work the ball often, I have a natural draw which I like, but if it gets slicy ever I just change my grip and Im ok..., so workablitiy is not a real concern form me. Imagine the feel of the T to be like this: it is not as deep, solid and awesome. It feels like the face is "hotter" as some say, or that the ball does not stay on the face as long. It is just a different kind of awesome. The T is a an awesome stick. Get 'er cheap too. A true upgrade. Ive hit the E and the S as well. Same thing. Good stuffs.

I recently added a 905T to my bag in 10.5* I am very happy with the driver. It has a NV-65s in it like all my other drivers. I think it will get a new shaft at the end of the month. To something with a little more feel to it, but a little bit of lead tape on the head gives me enough feel until i decide if I truely like this head :cheesy:

I have my J33r 420 on stand by just in case :)

The S and the K are different heads with regard to spin. The S is a very low spin head. I owned a T and must concur with the other comments that the feel just was really lacking. The S may feel better, but if you play the K with the 4560 shaft (which is a higher launching, higher spinning offering from Titleist) then the S might be tough to keep airborn for you. I have the 905R on the way, supposed to be here Wednesday. It is the real deal. Keep going all the way to the R if you want forgiveness and good feel with a little more spin than the S. The 905R is shockingly forgiving for a Titleist driver. But, it is not as workable as your K of course. The K is a benchmark driver. The feel has yet to be duplicated. If you want to get a little more out of it, a re-shaft certainly is a reasonable option. There are plenty of good players still using the 983 series.

wow!!! good to hear these comments...

I'm trying to go from my 983k to a 905T...but not shure yet.

Tested them side by side, the 905T is much more forgiving and with the Fujikura speeder the ball goes very high, maybe to high for me, but again, it's a 9.5 I'm talking about....

The 983k has been in my bag for 3 years , came with YS6, then went for fujikura and now I'm back to the begining with a ProForce gold 65 that really does the job for me, long, mid lauch, enough roll and straigt.

On the other hand, the 905T, goes long, high and some roll....over all, gained some 15-20 of ball flight.

The feel in the 983k is great, no so in the 905T, the tappered sound just anoys me after the first 20 balls at the driving range.

My deal is....983k plus a Cleaveland stick for the 905T, no cash.....would you go?????
