Computer issues Popping Up for All GPS companies

Recommended Posts

I bought the first Skycaddie SG2 over 5 years ago and have upgraded every time they came out with a new unit. I have done the same with my iphone and have the latest of both models. The SGX and the iphone 4. What both of these companies seem to have in common is that you have sync them up to a computer to get updates.

What I find funny now after surfing this forum, and reading how bad Skygolf is, and people bashing them is that all companies are asking you to go back to your computer and get updates. A lot of my friends gave me a hard time because of the membership I pay from SkyGolf and now everyone of them has had issues from Golf Buddy, Upro, and phone apps. I guess my point here is that all these companies were trying to show how simple they were to use and you never had to go back to a computer, but now that they require updates, these companies are starting to see the problems that happen with software and operating systems and customers that don't know how to use a computer very well. Scan down this forum and you will see all the issues with the new Upro updates. I've never complained about my iphone or skycaddie not working because with technology these days, you never know how fast things change. You just hope you can keep up with the changes and that they work.Remember, you get what you paid for!

The only issue with the recent uPro update was the need to re-sync after downloading and installing the "scoring plus" package. I'll take a minor tech hiccup over an annual membership fee any day of the week.

Most of the computer issues related to the uPro seem to be driver issues from people running 64-bit versions of Vista or Win7, or Mac users. I've had no issues with 32-bit Vista or Win7.

Was there a point in there somewhere?

And with the Upro you need to connect to a computer to download the courses so you it seems you have your facts wrong as well.

My point was other companies that have been in the market for at least a couple of years. ie, Upro are not now encountering problems. read some of the forums posted and the fact is, I know you need to connect it to a computer!Upro hinds it's fee's r calling it a membership by charging per course. My X has up to 30,000 that I can use, can't say that about upro. 30,000 X 6= a ton of money. don't stupid, no one going to use 30,000, but you get my point.

Nice grammar. I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.

uPro doesn't hide its fees. Basic mode courses (yardages to reach/carry hazards, and front/middle/back of green) are free. Pro Mode course costs are clearly spelled out (usually 3 credits). The flaw in your "30,000" courses argument is, if you stop paying your annual membership fee, you lose your courses. I keep any courses I buy with the uPro forever, and get free updates to them.

We get it - you like SkyCaddie. Congratulations. Maybe there's a SkyCaddie forum you can join to be among your fellow fanboys.

Wow, sorry my grammar was off, next time I'll hit spell check, was in a hurry...... I think U-pro makes a very nice product and sounds like they have sold a good amount and you love yours,I'm happy for ya..... all I'm trying to say is people better get use to updating their devises and i was just making a comparison with skygolf...Love to hear your feedback on the fly-over feature, I bet you use it a lot if your playing the same 3 courses you bought? nice to use if you never have played a course before, waste of time if you only play 3 courses......Stop paying you monthly cell phone bill and see if your phone company keeps it on....

Kids, let this be a lesson. Just say no to drugs.

What do you mean, maybe they should do some drugs and they won't get into an internet forum pi$$ing match.

Whoopee, there are clearly pros and cons to all the GPS units. I, personally could care less about the annual fees, I have 100% confidence in the SkyCaddie unit knowing the dude has physically walked the course. A frequent playing partner has a Golf Buddy and it is off by as much as 10 yards fairly often. Whenever I play along with another fellow that has a laser, the SkyCaddie and laser are always in sync. To me, it's well worth the less than a dollar per round average.

Now, to address what I think is the OP's point, I am alright with updates; however often they are needed as long as they don't brick my device. That makes me angry for obvious reasons. Updates are a fact of life with tech items. If you want to be on the cutting edge then you must accept updates. I do my best to revive dying threads.
