MP-37

Hello,

I am currently living in Japan, and I have a set of MP-32 irons with S300 stock shafts that I bought in Australia about 5 years ago. I played off 1 and I always used just an S shaft in Australia, because I didn't really know much about clubs. I went a long time without playing but now, I'm practicing a little.

A club-fitter here ( and other good players ) in Japan saw my swing and recommended a X200 shaft for my irons ( I'm 5'7 80kg ) I also went to the Mizuno Factory in Yodoyobashi - Osaka and they put me on the computer and my swing speed is 50-55ms for my driver, and 40ms for my irons. I hit my 6 iron around 200- 210 yards and my driver from 300-350. He changed my driver shaft to a Taylor made tour shaft ( mitsubishi rayon XX) and I'm hitting it straight and long.

Now with my S300's, I'm hitting them high and if I swing hard they go left. So I want to know what would be the best option for me:

Buy a new set of Mp-37 with X100 or X200 shafts for $1000 4-pw, Spined and aligned

Keep my MP-32 irons, and just change the shaft ( will cost around $500 ) or can I hard step them to make a X100 or something.

Sorry for the long message, but I just wanted to let you know about my stats and game, so you may be able to help.

Thanks

I'd go for the new MP37's, start a fresh with an awesome set of custom irons. It's worth it IMO to get the right clubs for your game. I just built my perfect set of irons as well as getting a custom putter and it is very much worth the time, effort and money spent for the feeling of satisfaction you get when you play them on the course :)

Hope that helps in your decision making process

Thanks Dr_evil for your insight.

I really like the look of the 37's and the set in the shop have like a gold finish on them ( he said they are softer than the normal finish ) I don't know what finish it is, because they only speak Japanese, and I don't. they will give me $25,000 yen/ $250 for my old MP-32's. I'm on a budget as my baby girl is due to be born in a month.

Just really deciding on what shaft to get. I was looking at some of the stats on tour and they have much faster club-head speed than me, but I'm hitting very long for only 111mph with my driver, and only 90 with my irons. Since my 6 iron is around 200 yards, ( swinging easy) I don't mind sacrificing some distance, for a really low and slight fade shot. Maybe just go with what they said the X200.

Based on you being on a budget with a baby coming, I would go with the reshaft option on your existing clubs.

The Japanese culture changes fads faster than your newborn will go through diapers, and you might find those fancy MP-37s on the sale rack in about 6 months for less than 1/3 of what they want for them now.

Just saying....

Hmm, sounds strange cuz the MP 37's are old clubs from around 00-02 era. I would think they would be much less. As for the shafts, if they are TT's (Ture Temper), by all means, get them spined cuz there spines are all over the place and very very noticable. Ever since TT bough PX the quality control is lacking and there spines are very noticable now also--didn't used to be like that. The PX is still a great shaft IMO, but they to need to be spined. KBS OTOH don't need to be spined b/c there quality control is excellent.

Very similar to the MP 37 is the TN 87...designed by Tommy Nakajima...sold only in Japan. Same design at the 37 but with a layer of copper under the chrome. They are on Ebay every so often.

Many people say they are the best Mizuno's ever made. You would only find used sets, not been sold new in 15+ years.

I've played them for 4 years and have a back up set.

Just a thought.
