I posted on this on another forum, but didn't get any replies. I'm posting here as it's for putters only and hope someone can offer some advice...thanks in adavnce.

 

 

I picked up a used Ping JAS (Anser) off of ebay for about $190. Red dot and 35inches long. I had it re-gripped with a Ping black-out grip and the swingweight measured E3. It's in really excellent shape. I know it wasn't a "steal", but I really wanted one and they are getting incredibly difficult to find. Also, I didn't want to pay $400 for one.

 

Anyway, I was wondering if if the tungsten weights at the heel and toe are susceptible to tarnishing or rusting? I don't believe titanium rusts or tarnishes so I think I am pretty safe there. I just want to know if there's anything extra I have to do to take care of it.

 

Also, I was wondering if there was any "love" for this putter. I don't see too much talk about it, but then again, they are practically discontinued. The Ping website shows a few models available and some only in LH.

 

Is E3, a pretty heavy swingweight for a putter...I think it is, but I'm not sure. I know it's not heavy like the Heavy Putter.

 

I've only putted indoors with it and only a few times so far, but I'm really liking it.

I'll try to add a little more to help you out......

 

I believe the Ping JAS Anser head weighs 340grams. A little heavier then other models of Ansers which usually range in the 320-335 area depending on the year and model. So E3 is normal for it. Remember the shaft is shorter and the head heavier then an iron that you're probably more used to weighing.

 

The finish is pretty durable on the JAS. Which is good considering Ping will not refinish it. I know because I asked them to do a JAS for me about a year ago. Maybe they've changed, but I doubt it. The reason they told me they wouldn't is because of the different metals in the head. Anyways...I take care of my JAS Ansers like all my putters. Wipe it down with some protectant. Silicone is a popular product a lot of guys use. If I get a fertilizer stain on it, I use Flitz. Flitz is like my go to metal polish for everything. I've used it on some of my more expensive blued guns with no problems so I know it'll work fine on pretty much any of my putter finishes. If you keep your putter clean through the round and coated with a lube in between rounds, you should have no problem keeping the JAS finish looking good. OH..and as jmconnel suggested...use your putter cover when you're not putting with the JAS. Just make sure if it's wet after a round, to take it off your putter. Good luck and putt well! :drinks:

I've had my JAS Anser for a couple of years and it is one really great putter. I think the price puts most people off it. I've had no problems with tarnishing on the putter. I just love the soft feel of this and the extra weight compared to the regular Ping putters. enjoy your new purchase.

Noticing this string while the telecast of the Nationwide finishes up in Rochester.

A rules question came up because one of the contestants' JAS heel tungsten weight

fell out. The tour official is trying to replace the weight and it won't stay. If it happened

during "normal course of play" he gets to repair or replace it without delay.

 

I own a JAS anser, and can't imagine how that weight comes out.
