Is 4 dividers better than 6?
Hey everyone. I'm seriously considering the new Sun Mountain 3.5 Superlight. I think they've made some nice upgrades over last year's version. The straps have more cushioning, it looks like there's a few more useful pockets, the foot on the stand mechanism is smaller, etc. My one concern, though, is that the bag has fewer dividers than last year -- 4 versus 6. I always liked the idea of 6 dividers, as my current Hoofer 2 has only 4 dividers and the clubs seem to get tangled (although that could be a function of the hoofer mechanism as opposed to the dividers).

Anyway, I was doing some research on the new Sun Mountain bag and it says that it has 4 top dividers as well as 4 full-length dividers. I know that my hoofer has only 3 full length dividers (maybe less?).

What does everyone think?

I, personally, like the idea of six or eight dividers, less wear on the grips, less tangling, less shaft rubbing, less overall damage to my clubs. But that's just me.

I totally agree. But if a bag has 6 top dividers but only 2 full length dividers, does that defeat the purpose of the extra top dividers? In other words, what's more important -- top dividers or full length dividers?

I went to Golfsmith today to look at this bag in person. This is one very well thought out bag. For those of you who want to put it on a cart, not only has the foot/stand mechanism been redesigned so that the bag will fit facing forward, but there is a sleeve for the cart strap to pass through beneath the pockets on the right side of the bag so that the cart strap doesn't block access to those pockets. As for 4 dividers versus 6, I have to say that I'm pretty sure there won't be any issues. First, the 2011 model has a larger diameter top than the 2010 model (I believe it's 10 inches versus 9 inches), so right away there's more room. Second, while the 2010 model has 6 top dividers, it only has 2 full length dividers (one between the top and middle sections, and one between the middle and bottom sections). The 2010 model has 6 total sections because all three sections are divided in half, but the dividers in each section are just top dividers, not full length. The middle section on the 2011 bag is also divided in half, but the divider between the two resulting sections is a full length divider. It's kind of hard to describe, but you'll know what I'm talking about when you look at it. Anyway, my point is that this is a very good bag and worth taking a close look at if you're in the market for a new stand bag.

i have the 2011 h2n0 and the four dividers are just faboulous, no problems with clubs tangling...actually i think it makes it easier to put clubs in and out of the bag :P
