bounce difference

how much diference til its noticable
how much of a change in bounce would you have to make before its noticable? For example if I were to bend a 588 53* wedge to 55* I'd have a wedge with 10* of bounce, if I bent a 56* to 55* I'd have a wedge with 13* of bounce. Is 3* enough to make a noticable difference?

I want one to be a wedge for high bounce conditions and one to be a lower bounce option

yeah I have a steep plane so mo bounce=mo better for me at least

right now I love my wedge set for up here in Upstate NY but I just got back from a trip to Florida and had nothing but trouble around the greens because I'd hit shots really heavy, after 2 poor rounds I found that spinning my wedges open to increase the bounce helped a bit but it was difficult to get the trajectories I wanted with all of my wedges open. So since most of my golf is split between NY and FL I was thinking about tweaking my wedge setup by pulling the 53* wedge which I rarely use down there but is my most versatile wedge up here and adding a 56* 588 which has 14* of bounce. I'd pull the 60* and add a 57* or 58* but I find that the low bounce option is great for the bunkers down there because once it rains the bunkers get really hard and tight.

I hear "shallower" plane all of the time. If you take very little divot....or "sweep" the ball with your irons....are you better with little or more bounce....not wedges, but the grind on your irons?

The short answer would be that you would favor less bounce.

If you put your club down so the clubface is at it's specified loft, then you'll see that the trailing edge of the clubhead will reach down slightly lower; the more bounce, the more the trailing edge protrudes below the leading edge. If the leading edge contacted the ground first, it would tend to dig in to the ground or really dig into sand. With the trailing edge lower, it will prevent the leading edge from digging in around impact time.

If you have a steep angle of attack, then more bounce might help prevent the leading edge from digging in too much. If you have a shallower angle of attack, then this isn't as much of a problem, so low bounce is OK. The reason a shallow plane hitter doesn't want high bounce is that if the bounce is too great, then the trailing edge might prevent the leading edge from being at the ground at impact, and you might get a bladed shot.

I find bounce angles to be a very personal thing...you really have to experiment to find what bounce works best for you. However for what its worth, after doing a some extensive testing myself, I found 9* of bounce is best for my particular angle of approach and that applies to both Sand and Lob Wedges. (Gap Wedges, should generally have less bounce than that).

I have been using Mizuno MP Forged Series Wedges for awhile now and love them. I use the 60*/9* as both my Lob Wedge and it is also my primary Sand Wedge. For longer sand shots and "finesse" shots around the green, I find the 54*/9* works extremely well. My 50*/6* Gap Wedge edge is used for approach shots from the fairway and for pitch and run shots around the green.

I tried so many wedges with varying lofts and bounce angles before settling on these particular (3). Does that mean that these bounces are best for you too? No, I suspect you mileage might vary. However, I do think 9* of bounce or something very close to that is a good bounce angle to try first. I think a lot of people will find it provides very good versatility for varying sand and turf condtions.
