I've owned both, and played both at the same time. I found the AR-1 to be slightly more forgiving with a higher overall trajectory. However, I didn't find them to be distinctly different. For the record, I had my CB-501's for about one month before I sold them. I didn't find that they hurt or helped my game any more than the AR-1's I was playing at the time.

doesn't really answer your question specifically but have some insight on the miura's
I'm like Brian, had the miura 501's but just couldn't seem to hit them...everything was hit almost like they were thin...and just low uncontrollable rockets, sold those on the BST and was able to get a set of ping S56's

I was hitting them both tonite for the 1st time. I LOVED the way the 501's felt but did NOT like the look of the 9-PW at address. The AR-1's were the cat's meow. REAL impressed. On the LM I was getting comparable #'s.

I've actually ordered a set of CB-501s. When I was being fitted, I never felt that the CB-501s were difficult to hit. Any other experiences out there with the CB-501s?

I have owned a set of CB-501's since last spring, and simply put...they are the absolute best irons I have ever hit. They have incredible feel and I hit them plenty high. Great distance control also. Honestly, I wouldn't consider anything else right now...and this is coming from a guy who is 36 and has probably had 12 different sets of irons in his life...these are what an iron should be...and matched them up with KB tours...a great fit.

Are they ideal for a digger?

For what it's worth, golfers with steep AoA's have better results with more camber, a killed or rolled leading edge and relieved trailing edge. In extreme cases, wider soles also for more effective bounce. It's not just initial bounce angle which many put too much stock in.

To date, my favorite sole designs for the better players with a steep AoA (diggers) were the Maxfli Revolution Black and A10 combo set. Or for mid/ oversized GI, the '03 Top Flite Tour.
The Ping Eye2's are a given.

With that said, it should be noted that the ball should be gone before the iron hits the turf...

sorry for the threadjack :hi:

I currently have the miura 501's with super peening blues and they are easy to hit and very soild.Depends on what u mean buy digger. i remove earth in my diviot. I wish the leading edge was blunted a little more. As the poster above me said the ball is already gone so. If ur looking for them to help with say hitting behind the ball then no these wont help. There isnt a club out there that will make a differnece if u put a bad swing on the ball. My problem is after striking the ball my club and diviot gets deeper. If u do this u mite want to look at some other clubs with better grind and leading edge. But as far as feel miuras hands down. I have played scratch irons mizunos titleist and there is a difference in all of them. It just depends on personal preference. If ur a good ball striker u mite look in to the new cobra s3 pro. hope this helps. and for the original post miura hands down in feel over the ar-1s. miura has thinner top line better flight for me but did it help my game maybe ,,,,maybe not.

Bring your current AR-1 6 iron to a dealer where you can demo the CB-501. Test both clubs out and better still, see if you can get the CB-501 with the same shaft on demo. This will give you a better guage on which performs best for you. Like I always say, because they are blades or blade like, does not mean you can hit it more solid. :)
