Crosshairs on Tour heads for sale...

Extreme Firepower,

Lets be clear what Tom Wishon is saying about lead tape and MWT.

The right reason for using lead tape is to increase the swingweight of the club; i.e., to increase the feel of more weight or "heft" in the clubhead. For that purpose, one 4-inch-long strip of half-inch wide lead tape will increase the swingweight of any club by one point, as in from D0 to D1.

Most golfers will detect a difference in the headweight feel of a club when the swingweight is increased by 2 or 3 swingweight points, but only the most sensitive feel players will ever note the difference of 1 swingweight point.

When should you think about experimenting with adding lead tape to the clubhead? If you sense that you can't feel the presence of the clubhead in the swing, if you feel that you fight being "too quick" with your swing, of if you are experiencing a fairly high incidence of shots hit off the heel of the face, adding lead tape to increase the swingweight very well could help improve the problem.

So, even in Tom's opinion, lead tape and MWT can change swing weight, which can effect "Feel" which may improve striking...Your point of contention is how MOI factors in. Most people here probably don't care about the "technical" explanation, just the results.

Threadjack........ apologies

The problem with the 'dark side' is that you are not allowed to post anything that may have a negative effect on their commercial enterprise....

Over here the admins prefer you not to speak ill of other sites, which is an admirable aim.....

but when you have a bone of contention 'over there' it's inevitable that people give vent to their spleen 'over here' ...... maybe somebody needs to create a 'shouting tree' site?

i concur since my post about them was deleted, which is fine...we'll call it www.freespeech.com but I am sure that one is already taken :kewlpics:

The problem is not so much about free speech as it is about people who do not think for a minute before making their post. True, there is a ton more latitude at this site compared to others, but that does not mean we are going to sit back and watch accusations fly for nothing.

Collectively, the marshalls and admins are pretty reasonable and relaxed. If you have a personal axe to grind, this is not the place to do it. But if you can turn that into a well reasoned and logical post backed up by specifics that is not personal then by all means, bring topics out into the open.

If you are going to use GolfWRX as your means to call something into question, be prepared to to write what you mean, nothing more and nothing less, and be prepared to back it up. If you do not post much at GolfWRX and all of the sudden come in hot and heavy over a specific topic it should be no surprise you will be met with suspicion and held to a higher standard.

MWT heads do not move enough weight around in the head to really alter COG position. Wishon proved this in his head that he designed that had a 60 gram hook weight in the middle that you would turn to alter the COG and influence ball flight.

HOWEVEW

MWT heads will alter clubhead closing rates by how you place the weights in the head. It will alter the shaft dynamics and effect how well you close the face through impact. So that will influence the ball flight and produce curvature. But it doesn't actually alter the COG.

Why don't you get a R7 425 and try it first hand? They come with 2 x 12g weights in the back and 2 x 2g in the front. Hit a few balls and take note of the trajectory. Switch the weights and put the 12g weights in the front, the 2g weights in the back. Hit a few more balls and note. When you see for your own eyes that the ballflight is much lower, call Tom and ask him to help you understand how the COG was not altered.

I am sure many of us would love the explanation.

If you move the 12 gram weights forward or backwards and replace them with two gram weights, assuming the head is around 200 grams (and with MWT it is probably closer to 175 to compensate for the weights) you have moved around about 10 percent of the total weight. You cannot tell me that the CG doesn't change when you move that much weight.

The initial question was answered. MOI and CG are a completely different topic and should be done in a fresh thread where everyone can state their case with numbers and experiences. And hopefully do it in a way that won't spiral down like a Wie thread. :kewlpics:
