Finally got off the range and onto the course. I played 9 holes this morning in Boston. Looking forward to tomorrow morning as well.

Played a few rounds already....

Hudson-NH has green meadows open since 2-3 weeks ago.
Mt. Hood in Melrose is open
and a few of the 9-holes around saugus and lynnfield are open.

I've been out for 18 once and twice for 9.

I think everything in Southern NH is open now.... Green Meadow, Overlook, Passconaway, Souhegan Woods, Amherst CC...

In fact, I tweeted this morning [color=#444444]"Your score is higher than normal, are you sure you want to post it?" Mocking from the USGA handicap computer; no compliments for low rounds."[/color][/size]
[size="2"][color=#444444]I've found that my misses are better, and my good shots are better too, but overall my scores are worse.[/color][/size]

[size=2][color=#000000][size=2]Monday - Breakfast Hill (Greenland, NH). My home course, first round of the year for me. Hit the ball well, but didn't score well (92), but pretty pleased with my game overall and just felt like I needed to knock the rust off a few aspects. The course is greening up well and is in great condition, but they had just begun aerating on Monday (7 holes were done), so it will probably be a couple of weeks before I return.[/size][/color]

[color=#000000][size=2]Tuesday - Portsmouth Country Club (Portsmouth, NH). The greens are the real star at this course (plus the views of the Great Bay) - and they're in perfect condition - running fast already. The course is lush and green but, given it's location right on the Great Bay, was noticeably wetter than Breakfast Hill. A very mushy walk at some points. I had an 89 here and was pretty pleased with my game. Lots of blue heron and other water fowl to boot.[/size][/color]

[color=#000000][size=2]Thursday - Old Marsh (Wells, ME). I got together with GEA'er Tom (tprokop), and he filled out the foursome with two others who were great company. This was my first time playing Old Marsh and the links style (which makes it tough to see the hole layouts from the tee sometimes) coupled with the absolutely ridiculous 30-40 mph wind gusts made this more of a goofy-golf outing. I think all of us stopped keeping scores fairly early in the round and just looked at it as a little practice round. Old Marsh is a very penal course, well-conditioned (but probably needs a bit more warm weather to round into shape) and I look forward to trying it again in some golf-friendly conditions.[/size][/color]

[color=#000000][size=2]Friday - Pinehills Nicklaus (Plymouth,MA). I met up with GEA'er John (XMichigander) for a round today. My score (82) was close to my all-time best, but my ball-striking was the best it's ever been (I was 0-for in up-downs - all my scoring was solid tee-green game). The Nicklaus course is, as John pointed out, definitely a resort-style course, with huge fairways, only a bit of water, and most of the challenge came in the form of swales/collection areas and bunkers. A very enjoyable course. Probably needs a bit more warm weather and water, as most of the fairways had a few brown spots (not enough to detract from the course, but noticeably different from the other three courses I played this week).[/size][/color]
