central ma golfers

Just looking to see if there are any WRXrs in the central ma area.

I'm out a little more towards Western MA, play out at Dunroamin in Gilbertville and Hickory Ridge in Amherst. I do play out towards Worcester once in a while though...

I live in Boston but play a good deal out towards central MA... Red Tail, Stow, etc

putting this up got me thinking...If we can get at least 4 guys to reply to this post. We could do a blind scramble in any tournament of our choosing. I think it would be kind of neat 4 guys/girls in the area never met get together to play in a scramble.. what do ya think?

I'm in Central Ma. Played most courses in the Worcester area. I play twilight at Blissful Meadows in Uxbridge and am planning to try Shining Rock in Northbridge.

Shining Rock is a great course you won't be disappointed. I played it last Wednesday in less than stellar conditions (pooring rain) but I still had a great time. Its a tough little track that has a good mix of short and long holes. The greens were quick even though it was raining and they didn't mow them that day so I can imagine they are up there on a nice day. I will be going out there again sometime soon for sure. They are just in the process of building the clubhouse right now so the shop is in a trailer for now, and they are just working on building the putting green as well.. Will be a nice place to go once everything is complete.


Inferno --- I might be interested in doing this depending on where the course is as I am more towards Western Ma.

Shining Rock is great. Fun layout with consistently good conditions. They make up for the lack of a permanent clubhouse with a large stock of beer and sandwiches and the most frequent rounds by cart girls of any course I've played.

I like to play at kettlebrook; well maintained, reasonably priced, and usually not too busy

Live in Central MA close to the Pike. Lookng forward to my first trip of the season to Red Tail (next week). Also will be booking tee times soon for both Shining Rock and Highfields - keep hearing great things about these courses.

Play mostly @ Glenn Ellen in Millis and member@ Maplegate. Glen Ellen conditions are very improved the last 2 seasons, I highly recommend giving it a try. I've seen some pretty lousy reviews of it online but must be from people who normally play Augusta because I looked really closely last year and couldn't find a weed. Maplgate needs some work, to bad because the layout is great.

Red Tail could be my favorite public course in Mass. and hopefully you luck out on the weather. Highfields another one of my favorites and is pretty challenging. Some course knowledge will be needed there so if you didn't like it the first time give it another shot. I have heard good things about Shining Rock and look forward to playing it this year.

Glenn Ellen is a fun track and it has come a long way in conditions over the last 10 years when I started playing there.

I play at Cyprian Keyes a lot, previously I've spent a lot of time playing at Glen Ellen as well.
My buddy and I make one or two yearly pilgrimages to The Ranch out in Southwick.
I've played Shining Rock a few times as well. Lee Daniellan is doing a really great job with that place!

It's not exactly central MA but I finally played Meadow Creek in Dracut. I'd read mixed reviews but the course itself was very nice. Greens, fairways,everything in great shape (helped a bit by the rain perhaps). High-end clubhouse and carts with GPS and not too expensive ($75 weekends). Only downside was maddeningly slow play at the start. Round ended up taking 5 hours.

That is the trouble with playing courses in and around the Merrimack Valley on weekends. Slow play abounds on every course in this area. Hickory Hill, Far Corner, Bradford CC, Cambells Scottish Highlands, etc. are poster children on the issues of slow play on weekends. I played a round at Far Corner about two years ago where total time was very close to 6 hours! I have not been back since. Atkinson CC is somewhat more tolerable as the rangers will keep the pace of play moving.

That is the trouble with playing courses in and around the Merrimack Valley on weekends. Slow play abounds on every course in this area. Hickory Hill, Far Corner, Bradford CC, Cambells Scottish Highlands, etc. are poster children on the issues of slow play on weekends. Atkinson CC is somewhat more tolerable as the rangers will keep the pace of play moving.

Good to know. I did play a sunrise round at Trull Brook (Tewksbury, just outside Lowell). There was a group of elders going off the front but I had the back pretty much to myself. Just one guy with a push cart who I caught up with but there's a spot on the back where you can easily replay two holes which I did, skipped 17,18 and played 9 instead, ended up with 10 holes in an hour and a half. Pretty place.

There's only one bad hole (IMO) at Meadow Creek (the par 5 where you tee off with an iron). Other than that, I like the layout and the conditioning has been excellent every time I've been there. I haven't had slow-play issues there any more often than anywhere else, but I've only been there 4-5 times.

Only tangentially-related to this thread: has anyone played Atkinson yet this season? I have an early tee time there Monday morning.
