Distance loss in MP-32's

I just got my Mizzy 32's a week ago and have noticed that they don't go as far as my old clubs did when going uphill or into the wind. Could this be from the extra spin placed on the ball? Also, how should I hit them? (Down or sweeping) I ask this because I generally sweep but hit down on my 9 iron on one shot and the thing went 160. Did it with a wedge and it was 150. Thing is though, that I struggle to hit down on the 6-4 irons in the set. Any help?

Sounds like your compressing the ball better when you have a steeper attack angle. More compression, better strike equals more distance. With longer irons you still want to compress the ball, however, the angle will be more shallow in comparison. Use some impact tape to check that you are striking the sweet spot and not too low on the clubface. For drills to correct impact issues try posting in the swing and fitness forums. HTH

A steeper angle of attack also means more spin. More spin = less distance. The shaft could be the problem also. Way too many variables that haven't been addressed.

also...steep attacks on the ball tend to deloft club in players who have their hands forward... And, also, you would tend to hit ball lower on clubface where most of mass is (this is true of all modern clubs)

Try Rifle shafts, or better yet, Project X in the MP-32's. Problem may be the DG300 shafts if that is what you have in yours.

 

What shaft did you use in your previous irons?

In addition to what bobcat says about upgrading your shafts to the best iron shafts IMO, what set were you playing before? It could be that they are stronger lofted than your MP-32s. I have not lost any distance with my MP-32s and I play them a 1/4 short to US standard.

I used play Macgregor DX's w/ reg True Temper shafts, don't the exact. I have the R300's now, because I look to smooth it out up the top of my backswing. The distance loss is puzzling because the 7-PW are a club further than I used to play. Thanks for the replies, hope this clears up some confusion!
