Golf Holiday in Portugal

advice needed

me and 3 others are thinking about going to portugal for a weeks golfing holiday next summer




can anyone recommend a good golfing resort that is reasonably priced and has nice course/courses




any advice would be appreciated because we are all a bit clueless in this department

Just back from my first trip to Vilamoura. Great location, and if you stay somewhere like the Vila Gale (basic but ideal for a golf trip), you get courtesy travel to Pinhal, Old course Millenium, Vilasol and (I think) the rest of the Oceanico courses. Fanastic trip, courses were gorgeous. Enjoy!!

Vilamoura old is a must... and if money is no object Monte Rei is one of the best courses i have ever played..... very tough and fantastic condition.

the Algarve is a fantastic place to stay with many golf courses and nice beaches and good dry weather
.We stay in the last summer in the DONA FILIPA Hotel at Quinta do Lago.

FARO is the airport and the biggst town.

Excellent food ( I'm Italian if is good for me.... ), british style,kind service, private nice beach and the main course is San Lorenzo in a natural reserve, one of the best of region.Shuttle service.

Near the hotel 2 courses of Vale do Lobo with a famous par 3 over the rocks or at 15 km Vilamoura with 5 courses of Oceanico.

Of the Oceanico courses in Vilamoura I can only recommend Victoria, Old and Pinhal. Quinta do Lago south, and the new Laranjal, as well as San Lorenzo are also well worth playing. If you're going east from Faro, as mentioned Monte Rei (costly) is a gem and Quinta da Ria / da Cima are very good courses for the money. Lastly, I second Vila Sol (near Vilamoura, www.pestanagolf.com/) although I haven't played it for a while, i.e. since the Pestana hotel group bought it and build a big hotel on it. The old 18 hole course is (was) magnificent though, on par with Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura Old Course at the time.

An apartment can be rent rather cheap, specially if you rent one that is not located on or next to a golf course. If you plan to visit many courses this is ideal, rent a car and have some great golf!
