Golf / Sports trip

Destination needed to play some golf and catch some sporting events

I have some vacation time I need to use up and was considering taking a trip in September somewhere within the lower 48 states. I would want to play a few rounds and catch a NFL game and/or a baseball game and was looking for some recommendations. I will be solo.

• Budget wise I'm looking at spending $1500/2000 (I figure $300/400 airfare, $400/500 hotel total, $200 rental car, $200 sports tickets, $200 dining - which leaves about $500 for golf) Figures are not set in stone however.
• I live in CT and have already been to the SF Bay area this year (played in Napa and caught a Giants game) but that doesn't necessary exclude me from going back but I probably want to try something new.
• I tend to root for the NY sports teams but my main objective is to experience as many different ball parks as possible in my lifetime.
• I'm a boring guy so nightlife isn't a major consideration but some nice restaurants would be nice.

What would you guys suggest as good place to visit for 4 or 5 days?

Jacksonville? You know there will be seats available for a Panthers game! Maybe Miami when the Jets come to town? That's new years day though...

If you did San Diego you could get Chargers and/or Padres and Torrey Pines. Detroit (earlier in the NFL Season) and you could see Comerica, Ford Field and experience some of the great golf up that way.

The Diamondbacks' season ends 9/28 at home, the Giants play @ the Cardinals the Sunday (10/2). You could fly in Weds. afternoon, catch the D-Backs game, golf Thurs. Fri. Sat. and then see the G-Men on Sunday?
