never tried it, i use the golflogix app. The skydroid app looks simple enough, just wish they had stats and scoring.

just played my first round with the Skydroid. Side by Side with my Skycaddie SG 3.5
yardages from 175 and in were very close to each other. only a +/- of about 2-4 yards on average.

I really liked the zoom view, which is basically a overhead view via Google maps. you can push a spot on the hole and it will tell you how far you are away from that spot. Pretty handy!
yardages seemed to load pretty quickly. at most 10 seconds, but most times about 5 seconds. Of course there were a few times, the yardages were noticeable off, but it only seemed to happen when I was out more than 225 yards.

The only thing I suggest is that you update the maps on their website for each course you are playing. i noticed that some courses the "middle of the green" was off by a few yards (3-8 yards). the maps are all user defined so you might have some people who mapped the greens a little off. So I just mapped my local courses myself to make sure it was correct.

For $1.99 i find this to be a very very good deal. Battery on my iphone 4 was down to 80% after the round. so it uses about 20-30% of battery life per 18. very good in my opinion.

Also i used this app along with my rangefinder and i find that having both was very helpful. RF inside 150 yards. GPS app to get the general distance from 150+, too look at the hole from the overhead view, picking layup spots from that view.

Overall Skydroid I thought was well worth the $1.99.

okay, after editing/mapping a course (just making sure all the front, center, back markers were really on point and not off by a few yards), the yardages on my Skydroid app were on point with my SkyCaddie! At most 1-2 yards difference.
So after making sure the course you are playing is mapped properly, this thing rocks! only used 20% battery, yardages loaded at each spot in less than 10 seconds. zoom/overhead views of the holes were great to use!
then i used my RF when inside 180 yards to pinpoint exact flag spot. used the skydroid to make sure how much the back or front of the green was so I can judge how much room I had to play with.
great combo!
im going to now sell my Skycaddie 3.5!

Downloaded today (Droid Bionic), played a quick 9 at a local muni. Best 2 bucks I ever spent. Accurate, easy to use, low battery usage, a great simple GPS app.

No fancy bells and whistles, no score keeping, no stats. I don't really want or need those features anyway. It does however have a shot tracking feature so you can measure distance after each shot. I see no reason to buy or use a golf specific GPS after using this thing. I might buy a laser in the near future, but I will not be purchasing a golf-specific GPS. I was on the fence about buying a laser or GPS, and this app has made that an easy decision.

The overhead view is a satellite view from google maps (or earth?) and allows you to pick a spot on the map and give you the distance to that point from your current location. Makes it good for carry information, lay ups, etc.

I downloaded this since I have a SkyCaddie but only a membership for my home state, so I wanted to have GPS functions for an upcoming vacation, glad to hear it works well. Here's my dumb question - I can't read the screen on my Droid (HTC Incredible) at all in the sunlight - does it switch to a different screen mode when you open up the GPS app? or is there a way to change the screen display brightness for sunlight?

It's not how...it's how many

no thats the one knock on this app. no scorecard yet.. i assume they will eventually update it to include one.

Have you tried the VPAR app?

Has GPS and live scoring and a load of other stuff. You can join up to 30 friends to the same game and create a live leaderboard.

GPS seems pretty accurate and has the map so you can see how far to bunkers are

for $2, it's the best you can get. i've used it for years. it's not the prettiest and it doesn't get updated very often, though. the scoring feature (with some non-life threatening bugs) was only added after a couple years.

i generally use yardage marks in the ground and my eyes, but the gps is often helpful for blind layups, unique tee placement on par 3s, etc. i recommend trying it.

i see a bunch of reviews for the Android phone versions, but not much on the iphone version.

Has anyone tried this $1.99 app on the iphone?

Hi - I can't directly help you with that question. But if you're still looking at options I have settled on "Swing by Swing". Basically GPS/counrse map plus scorecard. I tried a few and fell in love with this one.

It comes in a free and premium version. And the free version is very functional - has less detailed view of green and less bells & whistles on the scorecard.

If you go for the full version it will give you endless stats and create a detailed record of the days play. Including path and photos uploaded if you want. You can even let your other half track you on the course, which is dangerous if you get stuck in the 19th hole.

I've found accuracy to be perfectly adequate - but I am not consistent enough to notice small differences anyway. Anyway, if you're interested it is here: www.swingbyswing.com

I changed from an Android to an iPhone last year and kept using this app. I emailed the developer asking when the iPhone version would catch up to the Android version and received a reply (very quickly) that it was being worked on. Still hasn't dropped but can't beat this app for the price even without the scorecard and stats. Off topic: my group is going to try Gamebook this year and I am looking forward to that.
