help with my swing

a friend just emailed me a video of my swing from the other day and im not really sure how to analyze it.. Its not the greatest quality (cell phone video) so if you can't really say anything about it just say so, ill probably bring a camera along next time.

 

A little background, while i i have technically been playing for 8 years, up until 4 months ago i hadn't touched a club in 6.5 years. Anyways, I never had lessons, and now that im playing more often id like to try and get things in order. My swing does the job at the moment, but Im sure my mechanics are off and would likely make things more difficult as i get older.

 

ok as to this video, the things that i see looking bad (or i think they're bad..) are:

not hinging wrists up top to extend the take away

not keeping front arm straight on take away?

club seems to shake at the top before the downswing

weird looking hunched down position at impact

rolling back foot on tip of shoe, instead of standing on the toes?

 

ignore the over rotation on the follow through, thats usually not there, but i i was trying to compensate for an open face at impact (it didn't work).

ps: yes im sure many will say to go get lessons, and Im sure I will eventually.

Get a camera in the proper position in the DTL view. You're not giving us enough to analyze it... It seems that if the video was positioned in the DTL view, your backswing would look to be too inside and at the top, the shaft would be across the line. Most amateurs who does this ultimately goes OTT in the downswing to compensate for the inside backswing. And your finish is somewhat well, at least only your left toe is touching the ground at the end of the follow-through, which is good.

does that mean position it right behind the ball pointing at the target? Ill probably be playing again this week and will bring an actual camera.

hard to get too in depth with just that video. takeaway to top of backswing looks pretty solid....seems to be pretty much 'on plane' the whole way (....if the camera angle is actually down the line. it's hard to tell)

i wouldn't worry about trying to hinge your wrists more....but you do appear to begin the downswing by casting the clubhead away. plenty of stuff on that subject. gripping it too tight? trying to hit at the ball instead of swing through and letting the ball get in the way?

left arm extending early and coming off your body is another issue (same sort of deal as casting....you're throwing all the energy away early and forcing yourself to come over the top). could use to work with a glove under your left armpit to feel that connectivity. it'll feel weird and restricted, but you'll adjust and be better for it.

between the ball and your feet, parallel with your target.

get a face on video too.
