Stay and Plays in Michigan and Indiana

My buddies and I are looking to plan our next "Ryder Cup" outing in May 2012. For the past few years, 12 of us have taken a trip to a few places within a few hours driving of Northwest Ohio. Usually we've gone to cities with entertainment, good hotel, and areas with multiple courses to play everyday.

However we're looking to visit one of those stay and play courses with lodging right on the course. Anybody have any recommendations on anywhere in Indiana or Michigan?

Go down to French lick in the south of indiana. There are 3 courses I think well I know 2 for a fact and they are the best. Then also tied to the property is the casino. WIN WIN!

French Lick would be a long drive form NE Ohio. Northside of Indianapolis would have great courses and plenty of enterainment. There is Purgatory, Bear Slide, Trophy Club, Prairie View, The Fort are all great courses. If you like racing there will be practice and qualifing for the Indy 500 in May.

We went to Indiana National Golf Club at Swan Lake in September for a Byron Morgan outing. I had a blast. The courses are above average and it is the home to the US Golf Academy. The SAM Puttlab experience there was amazing!

No to French Lick. It's WAY WAY overpriced. Given your geographic location, there are numerous options in Michigan and elsewhere at your disposal. I'm not going to go over them b/c they have been reviewed and rehashed countless times on the boards.

+ 1 for the north side of Indy but there are no stay and play courses with lodging right on the course (that I can think of). Although the Fort might have options.i live in the area and can also recommend Prarie View, Purgatory, the Fort, and a drive down to the Speedway course redone by Pete Dye is also a fun, memorable option.

Now if you can make it down to French Lick and can deal with the cost, the new Pete Dye course there is one of the top courses you can play in the US. It is on the top of a series of hills with a view that extends for miles. It is tough but one of the most beautiful courses I have ever played. Of course at $360 or something a round it is priced to match it's value. A true destination course.

Nearby and also in French Lick is the excellent and historic Donald Ross course. Restored to its original large square greens it once hosted a US Open or PGA championship or something back in the thirties. This is also a great course.

Finally about 25 minutes away is a really cool course converted over from a large house farm called Sultons Run. Lots of elevation changes and a fun place to play.

The hotel at West Baden is the best place to stay but French Lick Springs Resort is also beautiful. This area was a major tourist attraction back in the early 20th Century -especially for the Chicago and Detroit wealthy (and mob).

Not too far out of your way on the trip home - north of Louisville - is Fuzzy Zeller's home course: Covered Bridge. Also a very fun, challenging and beautiful course plus I thing hey just opened a new 18.

So lots to do in southern Indiana.
