Nike Unitized Putters

Ok, I had my first opportunity to putt with one of these today at Golf Galaxy. Let me first say that I haven't been very fond of the looks since I saw the first pictures so I was going in with low expectations of what to think on them. I tried all four models and amazingly each of them felt great, but the one that model that surprised me the most was the Techno and this was the ugliest of them all in my eyes. I absolutely loved the Techno and I am seriously considering dropping the Red X2 and picking up one of these.

hate to admit that NIKE would have anything good about putters. but this new line got my mind changed --- much better feel than ping redwood. i like the weight & feel. similar to my scnp-2 (33"-350gm).

I agree. I tried the new Ping Redwood's the same day I tried the Nike Unitized and I liked the Unitized far more than the Ping Redwood. The feel of the unitized is much better than the Ping Redwood.

I saw a Tiempo in my local golf store and stroked a couple of putts with it. My observations is that the putter looks like a block of steel, very rectangular. I thought it was not very appealing at all. Homely might be a good description. The feel was also, IMO, muted or dead. I putted three balls and did not even come close to draining a putt. I picked up a Studio Stainless Newport that was sitting near the Tiempo and canned the first putt with it and it felt good. I like the look of the Retro better but no Retro was to be seen.

Driver:  TaylorMade 300 Mini 11.5° (10.2°), Fujikura Ventus Blue 5S Velocore

3W:  TaylorMade M4 15°, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7S

Hybrid:  TaylorMade Sim2 2 Iron Hybrid 17°, Mitsubishi Tensai AV Raw Blue 80 stiff

Irons:  Mizuno Pro 223 4-PW, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

GW / SW: Mizuno T-22, 52° (bent to 50°)/ 56° (bent to 54°), True Temper S400

LW:  Scratch Golf 1018 forged 58° DS, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

Putter:  Byron Morgan Epic Day custom, Salty MidPlus cork grip

Grips:  BestGrips Augusta Microperf leather slip on

:stop: Riiiight! :stop: I must have missed the sarcasm, especially on the "observations" of the two putters.

Both essentially were created from a "block of steel". I guess it's the "wonder bread" graphics on the Scotty that helped you drain that putt though. ;)

Ok, I will concede to Chris regarding the putting.

However, a putter has to be astatically pleasing to my eye for me to putt well with it. Next time add pictures looking down at the putters. Then maybe we can see how, IMO, ugly the Tiempo is. Yes, I am a major headcase. With respects, the Tiempo looks like a rectangle on a shaft. Very blocky and lacks fluidity. The Cameron, and others, have a more refined shape and is fluid. I prefer this look. Because how the Tiempo sit and looks, I know I could never putt with it.

Not to be biased, I will name a few of non-Scotty putters I think look better.

1) Ping Anser 2

2) Bobby Grace KBI Anser

3) Bettinardi DASS

I'll concede subtle differences, but you would have to be pretty anal to choose one over the other. I've mentioned this in my review in another thread, I'm sure a blind folded person who has never used the Unitized putters wouldn't know if they were using a Nike or a Cameron. I'm not saying there are not differences in feel, just that preconceived notions rule out any change the Nike putters have.

in my limited experience on this site, it seems people go out of their way to say something bad about Nike.

i putted with the Tiempo, and i think it's great (except for the grip).

I am not going out of my way to trash Nike. I have no problem with Nike at all. I just think that the Tiempo is ugly. I am not a huge fan of the Anser style but the Tiempo looks like it needs some refining. It is too angular. This is a discussion thread regarding Nike putters so I suppose my opinion does count. No Nike trashing here, just my personal preference.

I would like to see the Retro in person though. I said that this putter looks nice earlier in the thread.

Here's my 2 cents. There are a million different models of putters out there. Each one made for a specific person. Some people may like one some another but each is good in its own way and design. Each person will have their own preferences on what models or bands or styles they use and thats just human nature. If everyoneliked the smae stuff in each putter, well, there wouldn't be the diversity that we see today that makes each persons set Unique.

Yeah...This is one of my deep moments. Back to Normal Chris mode again ;)

I love the look of the retro and thought that was the one I would get, but was lights out with the neo so I went with it ;)
