Hall of Fame Induction

Anyone catch Kessler the other day?
So I listen to Pure Golf with Peter Kessler on XM on the way to work everyday. Yesterday they were talking about the Hall of Fame, and the subject of George Lopez hosting the induction ceremony. Did anyone else catch Kessler ripping him a new one? He was saying something to the tune of "he would be about number 100 on my list of people to host. He is a recreational golfer, and he is a little funny, but I could think of lots of people that would be more appropriate for the occasion." I don't remember who the guest was, but he was certainly trying to remain neutral while Kessler went off like a bomb.

I would have to say that I totally agree with him as well. George Lopez is one of the most annoying comedians in my opinion. His act really isn't funny to me, he just fills it with his annoying Spanglish. It is like watching a Black comedian talk about the difference between whites and blacks. It is also like watching a fat comedian talk about how fat he is. The material is just played out and not really funny.

I guess where I am going with this is that I don't think that he is what is needed for the induction of people into the Hall of Fame. Anyone with thoughts? I am done with my rant :pimp: :)

I agree with you. I think one could do much better than Lopez to host the event. It reminds of me of the NFL inductions when Marino's oldest son gave the induction speech. The kid gave a heartfelt speech of what a great father and person Marino was. Tom Jackson of ESPN felt the need to comment that it was a little dry and started slow. I think that people feel the need to have constant entertainmnet, and a hall of fame induction should not fall prey to that.

I do not know why networks feel the need to push Lopez on golfer's everywhere. Before anyone brings it up, I don't care that he is a latino. That does not matter to me. I just think he is not funny. Why not get a Peter Jacobson to host if there is such a desire for humor? He obviously knows golf and does not have a passing interest. Better yet, why not just let these people have a dignified induction into the hall?

Since you brought it up, I really like Kessler. It is a shame he is not on a network now. He has a great voice and makes even some of the dullest items on his shows seem interesting. I think that his articulation and logical approach to things just don't resonate with alot of viewers. I listened to him for an hour talk about something that I later realized to be one of the biggest filler segments ever. I did not find the need to change the channel over once during the segment.

I love listening to Kessler. He usually can't go more than 5 minutes w/o talking about Hogan, Jo Snead, or Nelson, which I find humorous. I guess I just don't get Lopez. I feel like he is trying WAY too hard to be like Bill Murray w/o ever having a link to the game outside of playing like everyone else. It isn't like he was one of the most quoted golf movie characters of all time...

Incredible Cinderella story. This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to lead the pack...at Augusta. He's at his final hole. He's about 455 yards away, he's gonna hit about a 2 Iron I think. [swings, pulverizes a flower] Oh, he got all of that. The crowd is standing on its feet here at Augusta. The normally reserved Augusta crowd, going wild... [pauses] for this young Cinderella who's come out of nowhere. He's got about 350 yards left, he's going to hit about a 5 iron it looks like, don't you think? He's got a beautiful backswing... [swings, pulverizes another flower] That's- Oh, he got all of that one! He's gotta be pleased with that! The crowd is just on its feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. Tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last shot. He's got about 195 yards left, and he's got a, looks like he's got about an 8 iron. This crowd has gone deadly silent... Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters Champion. [swings, pulverizes yet another flower] It looks like a mirac- It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

I agree with the comments about Lopez, the hall of fame induction should be more of a ceremony, not the Oscars. I too enjoyed Kessler on the Golf Channel to a degree, he did tend to get long winded, and seemed to bring up Bobby Jones every other sentence. Other than that he does have a great sense of history for the game, and a passion for it. I heard that he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way at the Golf Channel, and was more or less run out the door unceremoniously.

One complaint about the Golf Hall of Fame, I have visited there and it is a tremendous facility and would reccomend it for anyone who has even a slight interest in the game. However, why are they in such a hurry to get people into the Hall? Vijay Singh? etc. are still playing the game, I think they should require that you have to reach 50 years old before you are eligible, or at least not be active on the tour for a period of time. I know that golf is different than the NFL, MLB, or the NBA when guys retire early, wait 5 years and then are inducted. I just dont think you should be inducted until you have passed your prime, and 50 years old would be a good benchmark.
