USAirways Golf-Club Fee

Now a flat $400, round-trip

The airline I most frequently use (although only once a year or so) has now made it pretty much necessary to ship your clubs ahead or rent/borrow at your destination. All golf equipment on USAir now entails a flat $200 each way ($400 round-trip) charge in addition to any "free" bags you are allowed to check. That's a big enough deal tacked onto a $1,400 transatlantic ticket but added to a $500-$600 cross-country fare it virtually doubles the cost. Yikes!

I have a different interpretation of the policy after reading your link. According to the website, the $200 fee will be charged as follows:\

That is not how I read it. If you have 2 bags (one luggage and one golf bag it's $25 & $35). The $200 only applies if you can't substitute your golf bag for another bag and have more than 3 bags. If you have more than 3 bags it's going to cost you (and where are you going and for how long if you have more than 3 bags?). Am I wrong?

Well boy is my face red! Should have read it a third or fourth time before posting my little rant. I would have sworn that sentence said

which would be a whole new policy. I never check anything but the golf clubs anyhow.

haha I studied in Europe for 4 months... I had 2 bags going out and then my parents shipped a box to the hotel and I shipped a couple back at the end of the trip. I can definitely see 3 bags for people who study abroad.

That being said, its getting to point where if you have more than 1 bag its cheaper to just ship stuff to the hotel.
