headweight for a 31inch?

I was wondering if a 375gram mid sur would work if i were to cut it down to 31inches? Or would a 340-350 gram work for a 31inch putter? thanks

That would be extremely head heavy. I've seen it done though and some people like it. You can always use a Counter Balance weight if needed. I know if I was going to cut down a putter, the mid sur would be a prime canditiate :(:):( Fromthe people I talked to, they didn't like it to much when they cut down the standard weigh putters. Need a heavier head.

I'm not quite sure I understand Chris' post above regarding a counterbalance weight, but I think it would work okay with the 375 mid-sur at 31". You may need to add some head weight if you think it will feel too light that short.

 

I have a 400g John Byron Mid-broom at 33.5" and love the feel, still feels plenty heavy.

Basically what I was meaning was if for some reason he felt it was too head heavy, he can install a balance certified weight in the butt to even things out.

Sounded like you were saying that the 375 g mid sur would be extremely head heavy at 31". I don't think that's what you meant, and I don't think it would feel heavy at that length... if anything, it might feel a bit light, cause 31" is damn short. :(

thanks for the reply guys. I just tried out some putters at the pro shop and the all feel way too light when I choked down on them at 31.5inches. Only the heavy putter had a good stroke on it when I choked down on it. I currently own a cut down 32inch 2ball XG, read on the forum that it weighed 350grams and it feels pretty light but I really like the 2ball alignment. I just bought a Studio Stainless mid sur and I plan to cut it down to 31.5inches and see how it feels when it gets here. I just hope that the head isnt distractingly big like the redx long putter that i just saw.

You should be able to have some ports and tungsten weights added to the 2 ball xg -- may want to explore that option.

I think Joe Kwok could do that. I am thinking of using one of my olders putters as a test putter and tapping the sole to add 1 or 2 of the 12 gram TM weights :(

Chris - If you add ports for TM weights, I'd love to hear about how that experiment works out - To state the obvious - the benefit would be that it would be very easy to change the weight in the future.

Head weight will increase if you add weight to the head, which is what you need to do to keep the same swingweight when you shorten a putter.

Their are two different types of weights in putters.

 

Head weight: The weight of the putter head by itself.

 

&

 

Total weight: The weight of the grip, grip tape, shaft, and puter head.
