No Love for the Aussie Open?

A top notch event:

In the time since that 1904 championship, the Open has evolved from an event of limited local standing to being rated by the likes of Nick Faldo, Raymond Floyd and Jack Nicklaus as the world's fifth Major. It has been the stage for the game's greatest ever players as they have battled to claim Australian golf's most prized piece of silverware – the Stonehaven Cup. It is of no surprise then, that the names engraved on that cup are synonymous with Major championship history.

A top notch field.... (Scott, Ogilvy, Badds, Allenby, Lonard, Appleby, Parry, Estes......)

And No TV coverage in the USA?

TGC WTF?

They are showing a day late round on Tiger in Japan but no Australian Open?

;)

I agree. I would LOVE to see the Australian Open on television. As for the games 5th major... The Players Championship may have something to say about that. :D

It's definitely a huge event for Aussie golfers, but just doesn't get a very big draw of US players.

I am watching it right now. The conditions yesterday were quite tough. The two guys who were leading the first round (Nathan Green and Richard Green) were the two who putted the best. One of the commentators (Jack Newton) said that Richard Green had 22 putts, which is quite an achievement considering how undulated the greens are.

Unfortunately, you may not even get to see any pictures considering all cameras/phones have been banned.

Same here I'm watching it right now, second round. I have been lucky enough to have played that course, Royal Sydney GC, before.

I had a 7 over 79 playing off a handicap of 6. Sad thing was that I went 36-43-89 and I had four birdies. I remember finishing each nine with birds and the tees were off the back. Very nice course, but I little too tight from the fairway to the trees. That is, there was not enough rough.

I've marshalled there the last two days and have taken various low quality pics that i will try to post (if i only knew how). I got told to move by Badds!

It's almost sad watching Greg Norman hit slices onto the adjacent fairway. Nathan Green's -5 on Thursday was one of the best rounds I've ever witnessed. The wind and rain was atrocious.

Nice pictures and thanks for sharing them.

I emailed TGC asking for the reason of not airing Australian Open since I enjoyed watching it. I commented that there was lot of viewers wondering about the non-airing. I got this answer.

Thank you for your interest in the Golf Channel. We do not have rights

to the air the Australian Open live it is an Australasian Tour event. We

will however replay the 3rd and final rounds January 1st and 2nd 2007 at

1:00pm eastern time.
