My golfing buddies came up with the question of who the oldest living winner of a men's major would be. I think I know the answer but rather than spoil the hours of pondering I will see what answers I get here.

My guess was Doug Ford, hes 85ish years old...won the Masters somewhere in the mid 50's i believe.

 

BUT!!!!!

 

After doing some research though I found Tommy Bolt who is 88 years old won the 1958 Us Open.

 

Kal Negal a Open Championship winner is 86 and still around.

 

but the winner..Bob Hamilton 1944 US Open Champion is 90...

Bob Hamilton is a great champion, I have read many any account of his 1944 Open victory. But for some reason I thought they didn't play in 42, 43, 44, and 45. Something was going on in the world, what would that have been? ;)

Bob Hamilton is a great champion, I have read many any account of his 1944 Open victory. But for some reason I thought they didn't play in 42, 43, 44, and 45. Something was going on in the world, what would that have been? ;)

That is completely true. he couldn't have played because of WWII, all major golf tournements were either called off or undermanned. there was a golf channel special on it. Finally, my knowledge of WWII and golf used in the same place :stop:

Bob Hamilton never played in the Open. His 1944 major win was the PGA which was only canceled once during WWII in 1943.

Bob Hamilton visited the little 9 holer where I grew up in Virginia around 1976 or so because he had a cousin or something there. He gave a little clinic and hung around for a week playing and giving a handful of lessons. I remember he had a little trick shot rountine. Cool stuff to a teenager just starting to play!
