Sterling VA area courses.

Hello WRX! I will be in the Sterling VA area for work and will have some time to play 2 rounds. Anyone recommend courses in the area??

1757 is right in Sterling off 28 but definitely not my favorite layout.

A few minutes South you can hit South Riding or Pleasant Valley.

But a few minutes west and you can hit Raspberry Falls - definitely the best option.

Probably depends on how much time/$ you want to spend though. Check GolfNow, all of those courses should have some good options available.

Any budgetary restrictions? If not, Westfields is just a little further south down Rt 28 from Pleasant Valley. It's a nice course and, in my opinion, does the best job of providing the "country club treatment at a public course" in the area.

If you're looking for a cheaper round, I would suggest Herndon Centennial which is right by Sterling. It's not the fanciest course in the world but the holes are interesting enough and is almost always in great shape (plus the BBQ is great and the beer reasonably priced at the grill). Brambleton is a pretty decent muni as well.

Westfields has been in horrible condition the two times I played it this year - only reason I didnt mention it.

1757 is good course and conditions are usually great, but it's a shorter, tighter layout with lots of target golf. They have a cool practice facility and I believe the fitting studio is pretty well reviewed (if you need something else to kill time).

I agree with DCmidnight that Raspberry Falls is worth the trip, but might be a little more expensive. I've yet to play at Westfields this season so I can't comment on conditions, but the layout, IMO, is one of my favorites, and they have a great fitting studio (I got fit for my irons there and they do some of my club work too).

Other courses further away that I'd recommend are Stonewall and Laurel Hill. And I never thought I'd say this, but Twin Lakes, which is a muni close to Westfields, is in pretty good shape right now. The Oaks course from the tips is not exactly a pushover.
