Naples, Ft Myers Courses

I leave tomorrow for vacation on Sanabel Island and then Naples Grande resort (wife has a conference there). Did this trip last year and played Dunes on Saibel (convenient) and Old Corkscrew twice when in Naples Old Corkscrew was fantastic and have to play that again. I am also planning on TPC Traviso and Twin Eagles as my other courses. I use golfnow for all my booking so Rookery at Marco is now another choice. Stoneybrook also seems good for the prices but I'm probably limited to 4 rounds counting Dunes. Looking for opinions on Rookery vs Twin Eagles and TPC. Right now Rookery is only if I can get in another round.

I just got back on Monday from Naples and got in a good amount of golf, 10 rounds in 10 days! I belong to a club as part of our condo association so I take advantage of the recipricals this time of year. I played old corkscrew and it was every bit as difficult as I had heard, but finished birdie-birdie to close the round so I left feeling better than my score showed.

- I realy enjoy Naples Grande and the course was in good shape but the greens were way over top dressed and made for the first few holes being miserable until the dew dried off.
-Try to get a round at Hammock Bay, it is a Marriot course but will take public play during the summer. The course is excellent and has a great layout and fantastic conditioning. this is just 5 minutes from Rookery, another solid course but a little below Hammock Bay.
-I got to play Talis Park (formerly Tuscany Reserve) and it was in the top 3 best conditioned courses I have ever played. The layout is solid but the conditioning and landscaping around the course were over the top great. It is private but you may me able to make a call and get on, worth the trip and money.

Have a great trip it was great weather while we were down there, only 1 day of rain in 10!

So I played Dunes on Sanibel, Old Corkscrew, Twin Eagles Talon and ArrowHead. Had a great time. Old Corkscrew was as difficult as ever and was my only bad score but still fun. They had sanded the greens so it wasn't in as good shape as before. Twin Eagles was in fantastic shape and a great rate (and I played well). Greens were in the best shape I have ever seen any greens. Fast and true. ArrowHead was ok for a break and more like the less challenging courses I usually play at home but still lots of water. Went to Lely but it looked like rain so I backed out. Turned out it didn't rain. Lots of courses to play for next year. Would be a great area to snowbird in the winter

Have you ever played Beachview on Sanibel? It's a nice little course that I play every summer when I go down to the Moorings.

Ladies and Gentleman,
I will be down in Florida for a long weekend and would like to play a couple of rounds but I need some advice. I have been down to Naples about 15 times in the last four years and I have been spoiled with some of the courses I have gotten to play for free or next to nothing but pretty much all of my hookups have wilted away over the years. I have the opportunity to play Tiburon for $35 again but I have played it about 6 times and every time I play it I am underwhelmed. It's nice and the price is fantastic but I want to play something new. I have played Old Corkscrew about a half a dozen times and it's pretty nice but I hate how the greens are so sandy every time I play. I'm looking for something new at a decent price and I see that the TPC Treviso Bay is on golfnow for $49. Is it worth playing? I don't get out to play as much as I used to but I am still playing to a respectable 10 or so. I will probably play in the middle of the day so I can play a quick round and not have to deal with too many people. Please don't lecture me on the heat as I have played many rounds in FL in the summer. Not to mention I just played a round here in the DC area on Saturday at 102. Thanks for the help and feel free to offer anything up.

Unfortunately it is that time of year for top dressing here in FLA. I am in Sarasota a 100 miles north.
I get down there often, I have a hook up for the donut, (0.00) and we are playing Twin Eagles next week. Just call the pro shops and ask what their maintenace schedule is for July......
Treviso is a superor layout, check out Tallis Park if you can it has an unbelievably perfect paz palum turfgrass tee to to green and is always in perfect shape.

I own a condo in Naples and go down in the offseason to take advantage of reciprocals. Last trip was this past May and played Treviso Bay. Layout and conditions were great so would recommend. Another course that I really liked was Fiddlers Creek....play it if you can. Rookery was good, and also played Twin Eagles. Can't remember the name of the 18, just know it's the one the LPGA is playing in October. Layout and conditions were good.

I was down in the fall for the first time. We stayed in Marco. I played Lely and Rookery twice. I would rate Rookery well above Lely. I was not able to get out on Hammock Bay and Fiddlers the days I had available.

played Twin Eagles this past Friday..... awesome shape tee to green. Greens very smooth, a little on the slow side.

Going to be moving to Estero in a few weeks and have a job lined up at Bonita Bay Club. Anyone get a chance to play out there at all?

I have played Sabal on the East side several times, and it can get tricky on the greens in the winter if they are mowed down and the wind is up....
a few 3 & 4 putts can occur. Great golf club. Good luck to you in your new career.

Anyone familiar with Hideout Golf Club? Might be the nicest course in the entire swfl area along with Callusa Pines. I was able to get on there yesterday and it was amazing. Super private and exclusive but I got lucky and got invited. I wish I was rich....

River Hall. Cheap, DLIII course. Summer rates are 35/40 or so. Good layout, greens just got punched on the 10th, but they still rolled ok.

I play 2 or 3 rounds a week, and just use Golfnow.com to book tee times. Nicklaus has a course at Verandah, which has two courses. Thick rough makes a little tougher.

Can't go wrong with TPC Treviso and Old Corkscrew

I thought the Mustang at Lely was enjoyable and very playable. Wife, daughter, son & myself played. It's not the most challenging course in SWF, but it won't cost you a dozen balls either.
