building a putter question

im going to start an attemped at making a putter, but im goin to make a mallet style putter. what im trying to figure out is im wanting to make it a center shaft so what would the angle be that i want to drill my hole so the shaft will be right. i have some time tell i am there so hope fully i can get some good advise

Well a pretty standard lie angle is 71 degrees, that would probably be a good place to start. Also, are you going to have the loft built into the face? If not you'll probably want to drill the hosel at 3-4 degrees in the "down the line" direction." You might even want to go get fit for a putter first and use those specs since the design you are suggesting doesn't allow for any adjustability.

you know i havent thought of the face angle i do know i want it a 3 degrees tho not sure if im going to put that in to the face after it is build.

sole draft is essentially angling the sole so that the leading edge (at the face) sits lower than the back edge when the putter is aligned with the ball. take your cameron studio select to a tiled floor or concrete and set it down like you're going to putt the ball at something, then let the grip loose in your hands--you'll notice the face falls open. this is because the sole has a sole draft. it's very important on all putters, but especially on mallets, because you dont want the trailing edge to drag on the grass after impact. the sole draft gives it clearance so that, even as the putter comes through impact, the back of it wont drag on the ground.

it's like having negative bounce on your putter....if that makes more sense.

i think i understand maybe a picture would help

it's just the concept of negative bounce. i can't find a picture that would illustrate it well enough. hopefully that makes sense.
