Can I get some feedback on my swing?

My behind iron shot

Your making a significant over-the-top move at the top of the swing. Look at both planes. The one on the way down is well over the one on the way back. Your coming into the ball much more steep than the backswing plane.

Try to keep it all on one plane and see how that works.

The last iron swing sets up for a push/slice with that textbook over the top move on the downswing. You also sort of lunge toward the ball as you begin your downswing. You need to work on your swing by doing drills from the start of the downswing right through to follow through. Use that tempo with a good swing and you’ll be ok.

So I need to create more lag and keep behind the ball longer?

Just swing on plane like me and everything will be fine. :) lol

It’s better. 2 things I see here, shorten your backswing to parallel for better control, you’re not John Daly. The second thing is your hip turn. Stay a little more flexed at the knees and turn your hips more in the backswing. If you’ll notice your right leg , it is straight at the top of your backswing and this causing you to make adjustments to get down to the ball at impact. Keep the knees flexed, turn your hips and shorten up the backswing.

If you go through the frames at the 3 second mark in your swing vid, notice when you lose the flex in your right leg, your hip turn basically freezes as well....the one mistake causes the other.

Still, really bad over the top move you are making towards the top of the swing.

Your hands are taking the club back on a straight line, but then at the top you are curving the line towards your head.

The swing path should come straight back and then continue down to the ball on the same path (Or slightly below that path).

Look at the path that my arms take in the video of me that I posted. There is no manipulation. They come straight back and straight down to the ball.

Steve, If you really look at the swing, he’s very close to being on plane and gets out of whack when he gets past parallel. By going to 3/4 it’s much easier to stay on plane.
[/quote]

I totally agree with that.

He's gonna need to change his posture in order to get on plane though. Look at the angle between the shaft and his spine. It needs to be around 90*. He is over 100*. Too upright.

Bend the knees a little more and lower the hands by bending at the waist a bit more.

If you have a big mirror or window that you can see your self in, get your posture right so that the club and spine are at 90*

hey Steve, when you get bored one day let me know if you want to break down my swing.. im a glutten for punishment! lol but really your eye and knowledge of the swing is great to see.

Yo Don! nice progress, it aint easy making simple changes is it?? like Steve said if you work on that posture and shorten the swing i think youll find a ton of control. If you're worried about distance loss theres plenty of drills you can work on and golf specific exercises to increase swing speed with the shorter swing. I think more importantly you will find a lot of power in a better hip turn keeping the right knee flexed, l;ike Steve pointed out. I know you know but the swing builds from the ground up. keep on keepn on!!
Oh ya CUT YOUR GRASS!! lmao, you started it but i gotta get the last word in when you make it so easy.

Thanks for the compliment. Make a thread and post a video of your swing. I will be happy to give basic advice, but I don't go too deeply into it. After all, I'm an amateur and amateurs teach people to golf like amateurs.

About 12 years ago, I took a lesson from a PGA pro. He taught me the absolute basics.

Posture
Grip
Alignment

Later in life, I learned about tempo, swing plane, weight shift, lag and other stuff relating to swing mechanics.

i have a dark one posted about head movement, i too am shortening my swing due to reverse pivot @ the top.. ill post better shots next week when i get my driver back for the full Driver head on dtl and iron head on dtl.. i think having all four is a big plus.

not trying to thread jack Don BUT you might consider posting both angles with both clubs for the best possible analysis, heck maybe even add a 3/4 swing because you probably do a lot of good things in a 3/4 swing.

You should try to round out a little bit instead of upright. Drop your hands at address a little should help but other than that it looks good

couple tweaks

I took a screen shot of where I think the top of your swing should be. When you swing past this point, your coming on top of the plane and going down into the ball pretty steep.

If you can take it back to this point and no further, you will be swinging on a good plane. No manipulation. Just straight back and straight down to the ball. The idea here is to simplify the swing. Dont worry about losing power; you wont lose any.

Shot the worst round of the year today :stink: I suck. I'm done. Sick of wasting my time. Sorry for the rant. That is all.

Just take a little break and come back to it in a week or so.

IMO....now might be a good time to take a lesson. :)

Nice!

Golf works in mysterious ways.

I notice that when I become too critical of my game (Especially with putting) things begin to fall apart. When you clear your mind and change your focus, suddenly the pressure is less and golf becomes easier.

Paul Wilson made some interesting comments about how a new putter will often lead to better putting just because it's a new putter.

When standing over the ball, we are looking down at a new, shiny putter. Our focus goes away from the stroke; we focus more on the putter and how it looks and makes us feel. Putting improves.

Over time, the putter is no longer "New and shiny"; it becomes just another old putter. So then, we turn our focus back to the stroke and we begin to struggle with the putts.

Works the same way when we take a break from the game. Our focus is on other things.
