Irish PGA Professional with National Coaching Experience

Since achieving my dream of becoming a PGA Professional, I have had the desire to work and teach in America.

My first introduction to the vast aspects involved in teaching the game we all love so much, came when I was offered a job as 1st assistant to Michael Bannon (Rory McIlroy’s Golf Coach) based at Bangor Golf Club in County Down.

During my 5 years, Michael explained and demonstrated the holistic approach to coaching all levels and genders and, I learned how very important the fundamentals of the golf swing are as witnessed many times when Michael & Rory get together, because they religiously revert to this at the start of each session. Through my association with Michael, I have also been very privileged to take part in a number of sessions with Butch Harmon at his golf school in Las Vegas.

In my current capacity, I am a golf coach at the Darren Clarke Golf School based in County Antrim. The 2 year residential course offers our pupils a structured programme to develop their golf game, whilst educating them on psychology and fitness in order to enhance their lifestyle and longevity in the game of golf, recent past pupils of the school include Walker Cup players and current British Amateur Champion Alan Dunbar and Paul Cutler who in now a member of the European Tour.

Asides from my duties at the Daren Clarke School, I am also privileged to work with the elite players within the Ulster Branch of the Golfing Union of Ireland, these players are regarded the very best in the island of Ireland. My main duties consist of regional and national squad coaching, delivering information and techniques on technical, mental, course management and physical sides associated with the game and also from assisting with the coaching of the national squads and traveling and organizing matches and competitions.

I have previously worked as Golf Instructor at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy Belfast-, my responsibilities included the daily running and development of all aspects of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in the prestigious private members facility Shandon Park Golf Club- where i also still teach the mebers and juniors. This included developing, planning and executing all lesson programmes. I was also responsible for all aspects of the Custom fitting department and the retail outlet, this experience will prove invaluable with regards to the organization, management and running of golf programmes, operations and services.

I have also looked into a work visa and due to my background and experience with the Irish National Panels , the process would be relatively straightforward, I would also travel over at any time for a interview or informal chat as I know my future lies in the states and want to fulfill my dreams of working and living in America. I feel I have the experience and skills necessary to excel within any role and very much look forward to any help offered or information given as I reallly dont know what why to approach getting or applying for a job in the states.
