Pinnacle Gold vs Titleist Velocity

I was comparing the specs on the velocity and the pinnacle gold and they sound nearly identical:

 

- Both are surlyn covered two piece balls.

- Both have an average compression rating of 91.

- Both have a 332 dimple pattern.

- Both are manufactured by the same parent company.

 

I was looking for a good distance ball and was considering the velocity but it sounds like the pinnacle is pretty much the same ball with different stamping and a much lower price point.

 

Has anyone compared both? Is there more to the velocity than meets the eye or is this just a case of clever marketing?

My opinion - Clever marketing.... There is an independent golf ball test posted on this site every year... look at the 2010 DT SoLo (my current ball) and the NXT S - identical compression ratings... checking the specs... both 2 piece balls... both have same cover thickness and core diameter... only difference is 332 dimples versus 392 and $10/dozen...

I typically play a tour ball (either Hex Black or Pro-V1x) and came across a few sleeves of the pinnical gold at a few outtings this past summer. It brought back some memmories as this was my go to ball in my teens... anyway, I had excellent response from the gold and actually won longest drive and two closest to the holes on 200 yard par 3's with the gold at a few very compeditive outtings.

I have never had a problem sticking one to the green...

Bottom line, its pretty much made by titleist. In my opinion, you cant go wrong.

Yeah I think I read someone post on this forum that the NXT Tour S is the most expensive 2 piece surlyn ball ever released. I didn't know it was so close to the DT SoLo in terms of specs. Good to know!

Yeah I think I am going to swallow my pride and save my money. It's not worth paying nearly double to have the word Titleist on the ball. Thanks for the info.

worst that can happen is you spend the $15 or whatever they cost... and find they dont work for your game. I think you will be suprised though...
