Pumpkin Ridge

Heron Lakes is pretty good for a public course (ranks high on some lists for popular courses). This is my first recommendation. It's popular and thus crowded though. The greens are way above average (again for a public course) and there are two 18-hole courses to choose from. Either are fine/challenging. The main challenges are water and plenty of fairway bunkers. Plays like a links course in a lot of ways.

 

For cheaper golf with good views, I go out to Wildwood. The course has a lot of elevation changes.

 

I have love/hate for Eastmoreland. It's challenging due to a lot of thick trees that you don't want to go into, but the greens are only so-so and also it can be crowded. It is more of a traditional old town Portland course. You'll also see the resident "nutreas" running around (they look like 20 lb brown rats) which is kind of cool.

 

I hear the Reserve isn't bad and many recommend it, but I've never played it myself.

Definitely Pumpkin Ridge (Ghost Creek) One of my favorites.

Absolutely Pumpkin Ridge. One of my all-time favs. Caught it on a trip out to play Bandon. Not quite a Bandon, but definitely one of my top 5-6 courses.

The Reserve South Course (North and South switch which side is public on the 1st and 15th).

 

Camas Meadows (actually in Camas, WA)

The Reserve North Course

 

Quail Valley

 

OGA at Woodburn

 

Heron Lakes Great Blue

 

Stone Creek

 

Well, I played today out at Camas and I wasn't exactly thrilled about my five hour round on a course with lackluster drainage.

 

For my money, it's Stone Creek, Langdon, Pumpkin, and The Reserve.

Heh, I just played a 5 and 1/2 hour round at Pumpkin today. The greens were in great shape though...
