looking to update my clubs, complete noob

my swing speed is roughly 90 (source=distance chart). I encourage you to make suggestions on new clubs. I am looking to spend $300-$500. If this is the wrong forum, please move, I am a complete noob!

 

My average round is about 95-105.

 

Here is my bag, and to follow a little bit about my swing.

 

-Driver - Cleveland hibore 11.5 (i think it has an offset face, might just be the loft?) Regular Flex (220-230 carry-roughly)

• I tend to to hit a slice with my driver, I have been working on really finishing my swing and I occasionally completely pull the ball left (20-30 yards left but still far).
  
• I have no issue getting the ball in the air, my good drives don't go as far as they could
  
• Question- Should i switch to a lower loft? Should i get an adjustable driver?
  

5 hybrid- (I never use a 3 wood/3hybrid and I never use 3,4,5 iron)

• Taylormade burner (from 2009 I believe)- This is my most consistant club
  
• My misses tend to slice
  
• Roughly hit it 160-175
  

6 Iron- Missing

 

7 Iron- Taylormade RAC OS (2003)

• 150-160
  
• very inconsistant
  
• usually I hit it really fat and it comes up like 30/40 yards short on my misses'
  
• I don't know how to take a divot with my irons
  

8 Iron- Taylormade RAC OS

• 140-150
  
• A little better (not much better than the 7)
  

9 Iron-

• 125-140 (rarely push it to 140, will just take a soft 8 Iron)
  
• Much better
  

Pitching Wedge-

• 125 and in
  
• Notice no attack wedges (looking for advice here)
  
• terrible distance control inside 90 yards
  
• I am pretty good with it from 90-110 one of my better club

You can get some great deals on 2-4 year old driver models [ Cleveland Launcher, Ping, etc ] if you look around it won't cost you much. Is your driver flight a 'low slice' or a 'high push'? Are you making contact towards the heel and still slicing? Until you're hitting concistently from the tee an adjustable driver is only going to cost you $$ an won't help you finish your swing.Have these checked out at a golf store BEFORE you buy from the rack. Sounds like you don't have enough clubs, you can get really good prices on a 5-pw set of Calloway Diablo Edge or Razr X HL irons, Cobra Baffler, Cleveland Mashie's...lots of help with these irons. Bigger sweet spot, lower centre of gravity, more foregivness. If you have trouble with the lower loft on a 3-wood, think about a 19 degree 5 wood and a 22-23 degree 7 wood to fill in your gaps. They're easier to hit and get in the air and can double as a rescue club from the rough [ where I'm guessin you send some time in your round ]. Get another wedge. There are three clubs that get hit the most in a round: Driver, Wedge, Putter. You can carry 13 clubs + a putter...take full advantage of this. Older model clubs at say 'Dicks' or other golf stores cost less, and can improve the game of a 23-35 strokes over par golfer. Get measured at your golf store [ including your grip size ] look at regular shafted clubs, this should cost you nothing if you're bying clubs from them. Ultimately you have to like and feel good about the club you are playing with, try a bunch in-store and don't get talked into a set that doesn't feel right but is a great price. $300.00-500.00 will get you the set youre looking for I you loo around.

my slice off the tee is definately more of a high push (not sure what that is?).

I don't really get any roll out on my drives if thats what you mean (even when i dont slice)


What do I say when I go to dicks to have them check my swing?

If I was you I wouldn't worry about a driver for now buy a 3/4 wood much easier to hit straight and keep in play then a driver then take it from there I have been playing for 8months and only started using my driver in this last week golf is much easier on the fairway then in the rough


Ebay or put a wanted post on the bst will get lots of people trying to sell there old unused irons and other clubs
