Close to Scratch Golfer/Big Hitter 200yd 7iron DL Swing - Comments Appreciated!

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow GolfWRX'ers

Been working on fine tuning my swing this year and would love to hear what some of your thoughts are. As you can see this video was taken by an instructor of mine so some of his (mostly nice) comments can be heard throughout the video.

I'm fairly proud of what my swing looks like but always looking for ways to improve!

Let me know your thoughts if any - right now my main goals are to make sure I'm taking my time transitioning from the top of the swing into the downswing and maintaining a consistent rhythm.

Looks really good. Only thing I see is watch your rear end. It starts on that green poll then as you move down through transition it moves towards the golf ball and that right heel comes up early. Look at some down the line shots of some tour pros on YouTube. You will see that their back side does not move towards the golf ball. I'm not a PGA instructor, run this by your coach and get his thoughts.

You have an instructor dissecting your swing and you want the opinions of wrx'ers? why? just curious.
Ha I don't know, to increase the sample size? Curious about what opinions might be even if they're uninformed ones.

Why not really

No this makes good sense. A swing key for me is to make sure that I am rotating through the golf ball into my left side. Think what you're saying correlates with that. Cheers.

swing looks great and I envy your release haha. I tend to chicken wing due to lack of rotation through and the arms get separated. any tips for having a more extended release like yours?! looks awesome.

First off, your swing looks great!

I think if you do get into trouble, it is probably because, as tmartin pointed out, your rear moves towards the ball which could result in your hands moving a little too much out towards the ball as well, making your club cross the swing plane and giving you a bit of outside-in movement. It doesn't happen in the video, because you seem to have very good hand and right-elbow movement, but if I had to guess where you might get in trouble every now and again that would be it.

Take it with a grain of salt, though. I'm not a pro or even a very good golfer.

Thanks! I've been using a "drill" or depending on how you look at it "swing thought" that I feel has improved my release:

Basically I try and feel like the club is chasing the ball down the target line for a longer period after the hit. The ultimate result I get when I do this (particularly with woods) is a ball flight that's higher and also my hands finish higher at the end of my follow through so when I'm posing at the end of a well struck shot my shaft is angled down.

Hope that makes sense

I agree with the others. Definitely a lot of EE in that swing. You're lucky it doesn't affect your scoring more. Most people I know with EE always have a few swings per round where the results are horrendous and can severely penalize their score.
EE? you may have to explain that acronym too me - sorry if it's obvious.

SSS,

Just wondering if you have some pulls and cuts in your swing.

If I miss I either pull hook or block that goes further right - and I like to think I'm aware exactly why that happens. Its very rare, if ever, that I hit a true cut unintentionally, where the ball starts to the left and comes back to the right.

Really nice swing and a great release. If you can groove your tempo and transition to consistently hit the inside of the golf ball then watch out!
Thanks. Overall swing tempo and backswing to follow through transition are two things I always try to be mindful of - getting a better handle on both as of late.

SSS,

I would like to hear why you hit pull hooks or blocks that go further right!

Rushing the transition from the backswing to impact/follow-through - so better rhythm being the cure there. Also sometimes I get it a touch too far to the inside at the start. When I do either of those things the result is either I'm completely stuck and so a block happens or I try to compensate with overly active hands and then I end up with a pull hook.

That should cover it.

So- it depends on how good your timing is with your hands ?

Lane

If I'm swinging poorly yes but assuming I'm taking it back on the right line, not rushing the transition/swinging with rhythm , and keeping my hands passive then no absolutely not.
