Mystic Lake MN

Anybody ever played it?
Located in the suburbs of Minneapolis is this par 72 gem.

I played there last August and it was a cool looking casino-resort type course. It has names of animals per hole and you kinda need to locate the animal to see where the next hole is.Say the deer hole is next, you'll see a deer statue subtly hiding near the tee box...eagle hole has an eagle perched atop the tree by the tee.

Very cool course and quite inexpensive too.I hit twilight for $36 I think...with cart and range time.

Anybody else play it yet?

I played it in October and found it to be mediocre; and I paid $65.00.

Although they bulldozed the course I played as a kid to make it so maybe I'm biased LoL...

Seriously though here are my thoughts:

Pros:

1) Great GPS system in the carts with yardages to all hazards as well as the ability to order food so it's ready at the turn

2) Convenient as a weekend vacation spot with hotel and casino attached to the course

3) Awesome finishing holes, check out 16-18

Cons:

1) It's still a new course, not even 2 years old, but it gets heavy play which prevents the fairways from growing in. I was in the fairway on a few holes with a lie similar to what I'd expect on a dirt cartpath. Supposed to be bent grass, at TPC Twin Cities and the Wilds it's like hitting off your living room carpet.

2) WIND. When they bulldozed Lone Pine (a hack course admittedly) they removed a lot of the terrain features and relocated a ton of big trees that kept the wind down. When I played it was blowing a steady 15 with gusts to 25-40.

3) Its a dry course. When I say dry, I mean no Alcohol. Its on an Indian reservation and alcohol isn't permitted on the course. While I'm not one to get loaded on the course, it would be nice to be able to have a beer if I want one.

I'm excited to see The Meadows mature, once the fairways grow in and the trees get a bit bigger, it will be a nicer course. I don't imagine I'll go back for at least 4 years. Especially when there's several better resort style courses in the Metro area (The Wilds, Troy Burne, Rush Creek, Willinger, and Legends just to name a few). Just my opinion though...

IMO they both are, with Troy Burne being substancially better.

Although in 5 years who knows, the hole layouts at Mystic are impressive, it's really up to the management as to how nice a course it ends up being. A couple of suggestions I would make would be to open later and close earlier for the next few seasons. They may lose a little money but in the long run, the greens and fairways will come in much nicer.

i am actually a big fan of that course....my uncle is very high up in the casino and so he gets my dad and I a couple of passes each year. I agree that there are better course in the area-but the last hole at mystic lake is one of my favorite holes period. I actually got there in two once which is quite an achievement on that hole.
