Callaway HEX Distance golf balls, also HEX Control, HEX Pro

I found a new looking Callaway Hex Distance golf ball on the 2nd hole a few rounds ago. Never heard of it so I thought I'd trie it out. Man that ball goes a long way off the driver! It's like any other 2 piece hard as a rock golf ball I guess but I was playing good with it. Played the rest of that round and finally lost it on hole 14 of the next round. I couldn't find these balls listed on Callaway's website and none of the stores besides Dunhams seems to have them. I assume they are an exclusive for their store? I wonder if this ball is a rebadged HEX Diablo? Anyway there's a Dunhams in the next town and I go thru there on the way to work, so I stopped in and they had bunches of them. Regular price was $22, red tagged to $16.99. Got up to the register and they came up $11.99. seems like a good ball if you want to hit it a long ways and was pretty dang straight too.

The HEX Pro is a 4 piece urethane ball (similar to the iS) and the HEX Control is a 3 piece surlyn ball (similar to the HX Diablo Tour or HEX Hot Pro). These are not part of the main Callaway lineup and were created to be sold at big discount retailers like Costco and Sams Club (have not heard of the HEX Distance but I am sure the same applies).

Stopped in at Dunham's and picked up a couple dozen more of the Hex Distance golf balls. Still priced at $11.99. Woo hoo!

A few rounds ago I found a HEX Control by the first tee box and decided to play it. What a great ball! Shot a 39 in the front 9 and was rolling on the back 9 until a terrible 2nd shot on #16 after a great drive. Lost the ball in waist deep grass and 2 if the last 3 holes were a mess. Oh well. But I did order a couple dozen. Can't wait to try it out again.

I've found people on eBay selling near-mint condition used Hex Control balls for pretty reasonable prices. One was 50 balls for $28, the other was 48 balls for $32. Out of those eight dozen-plus balls all but about seven balls were as good as new (give or take someone's old Sharpie dots on about 1/10th of them). Certainly the best 60-cent balls I've ever played. Remind me a lot of the HX Diablo Tour which is a ver nicely behaved three-pieced Surlyn ball I've played extensively in the past.

I played quite a few rounds with the 2013 20XI-X and did not really perceived any awful feel about it. The 2012 version was very weird but the 2013 seems a lot like a firm Callaway ball (i.e. Hex Black Tour, Tour I(Z), etc).
