LOL. I told Byron how much interest this thread was generating. He's a busy man... hopefully more pics later today.

I will give you a few clues as to what we might see in the next iteration of pictures.

The sightline, which will be completely original, will be added.

The length of the blade from heel to toe will be shortened.

The top line and face profile will undergo a significant transformation.

So, if there is more shaping to come, how can you locate the sightline? Even if you modeling this in a Solid Modelling program, if there were some errors in the milling versus the plan, the sweet spot would not be on that same line. I would have thought once the head was complated, you measure for the exact location and then add teh sightline.

I am an engineer not a putter maker, so I have no clue how this is done.

Thanks for the very interesting thread. The putter is looking very cool too!

Is this going to be a standard offering, or is this a one of a kind turf slider ;)

Good question. It is very common for sightlines to be placed in the center of the cavity. Most anser style putters are like this, despite the fac that the CG of the head is typically on the heel-side of the sight-line.

Byron's new 007 putter is one of the few where the CG in the head is dead-center in the cavity and aligned with the sight-line.

I think the hosel placement happens next, which adds a lot of weight to the heel side of the putter, then the additional shaping is done after that to refine the overall balance and look of the head. It's more art than science.

Most anser "copies" have the sightline in the center. Most PING putters had the sweetspot heel side like you said. Pals, Anser... PING did not put sightlines on most answers.

Absolute agreement on art once the metal starts being cut, that was why I was wondering the order of things. Do you cut to match the sightline, or add the sightline to match the cutting. The latter seemed easier, and that was where my confusion started.

Very cool putter and it should putt well if it looks good to the eye, and it looks good to my eyes. Nice job on this one. Now, is a custom headcover in the works? I know it can be done since I have an order at AM&E right now with a custom logo I did.

That putter shaft should give it a sweet feel along with the awesome feel that Byron putters already have.

Hosel added today.

OK, that looks like about 85* (or a tad too upright), so I assume that the hosel is bent post-welding. Can you let us know what that process involves? Will it be a double bend hosel (gooseneck), or just a single bend to get it back into the 70* range?

I was also surprised the the hosel was added before final shaping is done on the back half. I would think that the hosel would present a problem for securing the head in a milling machine for that work. Do you know why the hosel was added now? Is it something to do wtih that shaping and the final weight?

Sorry for all the questions, but you are killing me with this. I do not do well with the teasing of this design coming to life over what seems to be years :drinks:

Thanks again for the kind words.

LOL - as I mentioned before, this is a side project for Byron to work on when he needs a break from finishing putters headed for Asia. He's a one-man operation. I am posting the pics as I get them, I'm not intentionally teasing you guys.

I am not a putter-maker but here's my take on the process. The hosel is added at this stage in the proceess because it adds a lot of weight to the putterhead (in the ballpark of 40 grams).

The hosel will be bent to allow for 1/2 shaft offset and a toe-hang somewhere in the ballpark of 3:30 - 4:00 PM. To do that, the hosel will need to be bent twice. I have complete faith that Byron will make these bends appear very graceful and flowing... and the final product will look really hot. This one of the true artistic elements to sculpting a hand-made putter.

I'm sure there is a time-honored tradition of how to secure the head (with hosel) for the finishing work to come.

The shaping of the rear shoulders is done after the hosel placement and bending to make the toe hang right, and to hone in on the final playing headweight.

Yeah, I guess looking at this, it has to be done this way since this is the first time through the process. Very cool stuff.

As long as you do not give us a Big Break filler week, summary show where all you show is previoous images :drinks:

It is reminding me of a PING Darby I just sold. :drinks:
