My personal opinion is that it does not look much like the Darby, other than looking like a mallet shape.

 

Much thinner top line, no shoulders, weight in the rear, different face profile, different heel shape, different sole profile, non symmetrical back line, etc.

I was expecting the sharp lines in the back weight (pie shaped things) to be rounded down. It looks very cool. Very much like my Darby - profile-wise or even the Piper. Cool alignment aids. Should look awesome once it is finished. Nice job - now we need a performance report!

It will be gun blued with gold paintfill in the BYRONMORGANMADE hand-stamped sight-line. No other stampings.

It looks really nice from adress and the stamped sightline is a nice touch. The sightline looks slighty crooked so if you have OCD it may be annoying, but all in all the sightline is still nice

Drew i dont know how to explain it other than unusual. Its a finely crafted something :drinks: That thing is almost facebalanced too...im sure its going to roll the ball phenomally. Congrats on your design coming to reality and maybe i'll get to see it in person this year.

I love the "something new, something old" morphed design, and it has been so fun watching the chronology and "reveal."

 

Also love the hand stamped sight line (to the earlier comments, I think Byron scribed a center line, over an ink background - which was done by hand and may look crooked - the lines to note are the absolutely straight scribed line, and the incredibly straight hand stamps. Skill, innovation and beauty!

 

I respect the back-weighted heel and toe mass features, the classic profiles, and am inspired by all the possible iterations, finishes, and potential different grinds, etc. Can't wait to see the finish photos!

 

I want more (now the pressure is on you!). :crazy: :)

I like it. I would see if the bumpers(?) could be softened - to the eye as the toe of the face was softened. That would likely remove another gram or 2, but not much more.

 

Otherwise I'd like to hear your report on performance.

How did he make the hossel before he welded it? Was it precisely weighed and what not?

 

 

BTW: the Head Speed shaft is a great putter shaft. I have sold a couple old 8802's on the bay and that shaft just feels so right everytime I swung with one of them.

at address. Very clean and purposeful! Great idea, I hope that Byron

sells many more of these. I have never understood why there aren't

more mallet offerings from some of the custom putter makers.

Especially since it appears to me that more people are looking for

heavier head weights, a putter like this would be a natural.....

We haven't discussed a headcover, but I will investigate the AM&E custom options with Byron - thanks for the good idea.

 

I don't know when it will get finished or when I will get it. If there is enough interest in seeing this go into production (which is mostly up to you all), it could end up being reviewed by Byron for performance, then go straight to his CNC guru for coding. That would be beyond cool. I would buy at least 10 of them for family and freinds, so there's a start on making it cost-effective.

I have no idea what this will cost, and my recent sell off of some OTR putters is unrelated... just trying to scale back and circulate some putters that I am unlikely to use that others may put into play.

 

Regarding the SoftTail tribute: David Mills' SoftTail was one influence in the design of this putter, among others. David is making exceptional putters and he and Jay Green and Paul Constantine are true gentlemen and honor the legacy of Truett P. Mills' putter craftsmanship. The designs of T.P. and David Mills have been widely immitated, and in many instances, directly copied by other famous putter makers. Other than Karsten Solheim, T.P. Mills is probably the most sincerely flattered putter maker ever.

 

I sincerely hope that the face profile tribute to the SoftTail (which is not an exact copy) that is seen in the Turf Surfer will be received as a compliment (and a tip of the hat) to David and everyone at T.P. Mills Co., and not seen as some crass rip off. That's the spirit behind the decision to make this face shape.
