what are the differences??
I'm wondering what the differences are between the stainless and carbon chrome models of the 735 are. Do they offer same ballflight? I've heard the SS is softer? What about wear? FWIW, I'm leaning towards the chrome model I think....

I even posted in it....doh!

So how do they compare play-wise?  Same spin, lofts, trajectory etc?

I have both sets. The chrome heads come out to final weight pre-chroming so they add a step to shave topline width and/or sole width. After chroming the weights remain the same. This difference is visible side by side but I think the chrome finish contributes to the visual difference.

As for softness - both soft just different feel. Put a gun to my head and I'm calling the stainless softer.

Playability and launch/ballflight is the same.

You can't see much from the pics but here they are with 690.CB's as well.

I was told by a fairly knowledgeable sales rep that the chrome has a D1 swingweight and the SS has a D3, but the Titleist website says they're both D2.

Order Custom and get what you want.

The stock sets always range between D1 and D3. They average to D2. :clapping:

One of our sets is D1.5 (Chrome) and the other (SS) is D3!

If you custom order you can get them D5 if you want!!!! :cheesy:

THANKS!!! Since you've seen both sets, maybe you can answer this: in the long irons of the stainless set I noticed a bit of the undercut of the cavity from address....can you see that in the chrome set?

Short answer ... yes.

Long answer ... it's just not as noticeable in the chrome. The shiney surface hides the angles and edges better to me.

That being said ... I never noticed until you asked me to look :clapping:

This is from my Titleist rep

This question has come up several times. Is there a size difference between 735 Chrome and 735 Stainless? The answer is yes, slightly.

It is important to know and to say that both the chrome and stainless versions of 735 come from the exact same forging dies. So the "design" is identical. As it relates to size there is a very subtle difference. The 735 Chrome head is marginally smaller for the following reasons.

1. The 1025 mild carbon steel alloy used in 735 Chrome is slightly more dense than the 410 stainless steel alloy used in 735 Stainless. This means the 735 Chrome head is slightly heavier when it comes out of the forging die.

2. The 1025 mild carbon steel alloy used in 735 Chrome is plated to prevent corrosion. The chrome plating adds weight.

3. In order to compensate for the added weight due to the higher material density and the chrome plating, 735 Chrome heads are processed differently during the finishing operation.

4. During face machining (an operation we perform on all our forgings) the 735 Chrome face is machined down +0.005" more than the 735 Stainless. In addition, the back of the top-line and sole are polished to achieve the desired head weight before plating.

5. The result is that 735 Chrome heads have a marginally narrower top-line and slightly narrower sole. The difference is not readily apparent. However, if you look closely you can see it.

What does this mean? While the size difference is small, you can accurately state the following.

- 735 Chrome with its bright finish looks smaller and more traditional. The slightly narrower sole may perform better for the traditional picker.

- 735 Stainless with its satin finish looks larger and provides a rich, non-glare appearance. The slightly larger top-line may add confidence at address. The slightly larger sole may perform better for players needing a little more sole width (due to a steeper angle or softer conditions).
