Disappointed in Titleist's custom dept. QC

chrome cracks on 735.cm hosels
I placed an order for a custom set of chrome 735.cm after playing with my club pro's set so I wanted one almost identical to his set but with 1* upright lie for my set. It finally arrived today after 2 week wait. Upon opening the box and I noticed several clubs has some chrome cracks around the hosels where someone obviously did a careless job of adjusting the lies to my specs. I was kinda surprised that they'd let a set like this slip through their quality control so I refused to purchase it and my club pro is going to send it back. I probably should've ordered standard set and do the job myself.

I've heard of some messed up custom jobs but whoever heard of chrome cracks on brand new clubs?????

After calling Titleist custom dept and a very nice gentlemen answered my call, I explained what I had received and was little disappointed in shoddy work that someone had done. After he asked me few questions and information on where I placed my order, he said that they'll get a standard set out to me tomorrow so all is good.

Gotta hand it to them for having a very good customer service. :clapping:

To me this sounds a little un Titleist like...Just make sure you pro didn't take a STD set and bend it up himself to save having to make custom order.

I tend to agree, it's pretty a pretty common tactic. It's not inherently wrong unless either the guy doesn't know how to bend a club properly or they were presented to you as custom from titleist.

Titleist QC is very good, as their custom dept is very good...

You two did not read my post carefully or maybe I should've put up more information. I ordered it with 1* upright lie from Titleist, I was there when my club pro placed the order on the Achusnet ordering website and I know my club pro won't do it on new clubs unless his member request it. I opened the box myself in front of club's assistant pro and he noticed it too. There was a packing slip & custom spec sheet that clearly shows of my spec request.

If I wanted a standard set, I would've gone to casvolsmu's store and bought a set from him 2 weeks ago, then do the work on my own. That kind of chrome cracks shows that someone did the adjusting too quickly and I'm sure it doesn't happen too often because I usually have no problems with Titleist orders otherwise.

Dynamic Gold S300, don't ask me why but I seem to play well with those shafts. I had those shafts in my current set of XTour.

I had been playing with my club pro's set of 735 for few rounds in the past 2 weeks and played pretty well with them. Long irons seems easy to hit and I like the blades for short irons. I can't wait to get my set of 735's tomorrow. I'm very glad that Titleist was willing to bend backwards to get another set to me overnight.

I only had one experience with Titleist and it was a bad one. I got a set of 704 cbs with S300s from them. The specs were all over the place, anywhere from 2* flat to 2* upright. Some of teh lofts on different clubs were the same. The kicker was the shafts. After playing them for a few rounds I noticed a considerable distance loss over my old irons. I knew it wasn't the lofts, cause I had them adjusted to teh same specs as my old set. The shafts felt a little stiff, but I thought nothing of it. I had RP put them on his frequency machine and the so called S300s came in at 7.9! Just a little off I would say, being that a normal S300 is in the 5.5-6.0 range.

Anyway, here's the next step of my 735 saga, the promised set of 735 arrived this afternoon around 4:30. Titleist messed up again but it's not a big deal this time.

Apparently, they were supposed to ship me a set of chrome 735 but I received stainless steel 735's. No biggie deal and it does set up nicely too.
