Golfing by Design in Sanford, NC

Any body have any experience?

I am thinking about going to see GBD is Sanford, but am a bit leery about getting fitted inside. I have not found a good place hear in the RDU area to get fitted outdoors, my preference.
Any idea if GBD offers a "take it out and play with it for a few rounds" guarantee?
Any feed back is greatly appreciated.

GBD has an arrangement with a local driving range for this very purpose. They keep their trailer parked at the range (saw it last time I was there). Ask them about it.

As far as the "take it out..."...not sure.

I am considering having my new MX 23's custom fitted by them, so I'd be interested in your thoughts of them after you've been fitted.

It is a bit chilly here in RDU at the moment, so the range is a bit hit or miss, but that is great to know. I am going to set up a fitting in the next week or two. I will post my experience when I am through.

I am at a facility that uses GBD every season. Their work is the best I've ever seen, and the guys are great to boot! Randy, David, Ed, and Josh know as much about clubs as anyone. I would brave the cold to make sure that you could do work through them.

Thanks for the input! What club do they go to in NJ? I am originally from Wall Township. It's warmer down south but I still miss NJ.

I am at a high-end private club in Jackson. They also visit several other facilities in the state as well, on their tour of the northeast. It is way cold up here, but it is never too cold to be thinking about golf!

They do really good work. Personally, I've never had good luck getting fitted indoors. Fortunately, they come at least once a year to my club so it's pretty convenient to go get fitted on our range. I would imagine that they could do an outdoor fitting for you if you requested it. There are plenty of available ranges in the Sanford area and the weather is pretty decent right now.

Just an update: I went to the driving range GBD was using, and they're not using it any longer. They're still in business and I'm not aware of any problems, but I do not know if they have outdoor fitting available in Sanford.

I got a set of irons done there a couple of years ago. Dealt with David. Very nice guy, very nice setup in a loft in downtown Sanford. Pretty pricey, though. Two of us went down there and my buddy was told by them that his Miuras were perfect for him so no need to change. Not many places that reputable. I was fitted inside and was hoing it at the time (Jan) so I was/suspect about the numbers. I would not do indoor fitting again. They do good work. There is no hit and return policy. Their receipts state that they build custom clubs and no returns, etc.

Just so you know, I paid 85 buck a head for MX 23s plus 50 a club for Nippon shafts. The fitting fee is extra, not thrown in if you buy clubs. I paid over $900 for six irons and fitting. Got a whole set of Miuras with Nippon shafts (same as my MX 23s) for 1150 from someone else. Go figure.

If you think I have mixed emotions, I do. I know others that have been down there and they loved it. Certainly worth calling them.
