Other things to do at Kohler

Recommended Posts

So after labor day weekend I'm headed to Kohler with my dad and 2 other guys. My dad is a bit older and will only be playing 18 in the AM, while myself and the others go out for another 18.

That leaves my dad a bit bored in the afternoons. My sisters and I are brainstorming Father's day gifts. Are there any cool attractions or things to do in Kohler or at the golf course that we can get him that will occupy some time? Doesn't necessarily have to be golf related.

TIA

If you Dad is a fisherman, there is a great stream for fly fishing.

Now for something completely different, have him go through a tour of the Kohler Design center. Seriously. He'll see some bathroom designs that will just blow his mind...and maybe give him some ideas. I've gone through it 4-5 times and it's a great break from golf is you need it.

I'd second this recommendation. We had our sales meeting at The American Club a few years ago, and we had a private dinner reception there. It was VERY cool, at least to me - I'm into home improvement projects and enjoy this kind of stuff.

Also, if you enjoy beer, be sure to try Spotted Cow by the New Glarus Brewing Co. It is one of my favorites, and only available in WI.

Figure out a way to get in the River Bend Club for a drink. That place is very cool. Very relaxing. Maybe just call them and ask. They seemed very cool, very nice and as long as they weren't super busy with members they seemed willing to make an exception. My dad and I got in there (though we know a friend of a friend kind of situation) and it was a pretty awesome place. There was only 1 person there the day we were there. Some beautiful mid twenties girl sitting by the pool. That was it.

SB I remember and loved the thread about your trip with your Dad. That was memorable for you guys and a great trip to read about. Have you guys done any others recently?

We have not. Ironically the weekend after we went to Kohler, my Dad, mom and wife and I headed up to their place in Michigan. We finally made the 2 hour trip south/west and played Arcadia Bluffs. That was a lot of fun as it was the first high end course my wife was able to play and my mom walked the course with us that day. It was another great trip.

In continuing with our mission to knock out some bucket list courses each year as a father/son bonding trip, Dad and I are heading to Bandon in September with a couple of guys. I absolutely cannot wait for that trip. We are playing all 5 of the courses out there and I am sure will spend a lot of time at the Punch Bowl in the evenings. Hopefully I won't lose the rest of my cash on the Punch Bowl (though by dad is a master with a putter in hand).

Ya. Did Bandon last year with the old man. He is getting up there in age so he wants to bang out the courses while he still has some game. Bandon is just spectacular. Amazingly lives up to the hype (and there is A LOT of hype).

There are several charter boats available in Sheboygan for fishing Lake Michigan. Lake Trout and Coho salmon.

Just up the road in Manitowoc is the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and it has the USS Cobia, an intact WWII submarine. They build 28 subs in the shipyard there during WWII.
